I just bought a '98 12 valve and added a 4 inch exhaust and and air filter, I have been browsing all the posts finding great information, I want to do the KDP, and some transmission mods it is an auto, unfortunately. It is used as a daily driver and a tow rig occasionaly so any help would be great.

you can destroy that trans for less than $500 in parts on that engine - I know that much. Get a boost fitting, slide your plate forward, get a spring kit for your AFC, and maybe some governor springs and bigger/stiffer valve springs. That should be a good start.

You probably know you can destroy any automatic or clutch and manual transmission with a different plate or shoving it forward as recommended above. Some people manage to tear them up stock! First get a full set of gauges if you don't have them already. Then get some baseline readings towing and in normal driving.

Read the discussions on the various plates. I put a #6 plate in mine at 116K. I added the 3K GSK at 185K when I did the DTT and KDP also. From the get go the #6 plate would slip the stock 47re

at 24-26# boost locked in OD pulling my fiver. I still managed to tow with it 12-14K and ride and race 70K before the transmission gave up. It never slipped when not towing. That included while smoking my friend's chipped 04 D/A!

I would check pressures in the transmission per DTT instructions and follow there recommendations. Install a GSK with whatever plate you do. Keep the rpms up while towing and do the transmission when you can.

With the DTT and KDP my 98 has no problem pulling with my 2006 or my friends 06 D/A Z.

It gets better fuel mileage than either too.

I am heading out this morning to try out another friend's new 3500 SRW. He says it is much stronger than his 2003 HO was already. If true it will be a handful when broken in.
