Hello

My 98 has 305 70 16's on it. I dont know if i got a bad set but I have 18,000 on them and there pretty much beat. (Goodyear Wrangler AT/S) I did regular rotation on them because since new they would get "chopped" up front and I would put them in the back to wear em true. My question is I like the big tires but want to know if i can get a skinner tire and maybe a different manufacturer that someone has had luck with. My Michelins got almost 30K before i switched them out but there expensive in my opinion.

THANKS

Rickson 19. 5's with Michelin MDS 245's will solve all problems; I should get 80,000 miles plus out of them.

Bud, dont take this the wrong way, I am nottreating you like a moron but I have to ask you ... ... ... .

are you sure you are running the correct tire pressure to match the load range stamped on the side of the tire?

this will cause the chop you are getting on your tires. also, are the properly balanced? The bigger the tire the harder to keep in balance.

I just put on Toyo 305/70/16 Open Country A/T's on my 2002 last week and I love them. They are quite on the Highway and have a nice tread design plus they are a true "E" rated 10ply tire. I know that Goodyear this year just updated their Wrangler M/T's to 3ply sidewalls I'm not sure about their A/T line. The problem with most high flotation tires is they don't have enough sidewall strength. Most are "d" rated tires at best. They say they can carry the weight but that is due to their tread width not their construction. When you put the weight on them for long periods of time increased tire wear and possible tire failure are the result due to the weak sidewall design of the tire. It is for this reason That I look for a Tire that is10ply or "E" rated when buying tires for my 1 ton and HD 3/4 Ton trucks.

Again I don't have many miles on this set of Toyo tires but from past experiences with Toyo tires and from my Initial feelings about this tire I would suspect to get 50,000+ miles out of them.

I have also ran Cooper Discoverer STT "E" rated tire on my 94 dually for 50,000+ thousand miles with no flats or any trouble. They had a little more road noise due to their aggressive tread design but they looked real good. :D

I would highly recommend either brand for your truck.

thanks for all the replies

I am running 50 psi in them and they are balanced. Only the fronts get choppy not the backs(of course lol) but maybe I will consider another mfg. for tires:confused:
