98 with a 8.3L and 9spd????

4bt cummins and trannys

I'm not sure of the accuracy of this story, so take this for what it is worth.



There is a young guy named Matt(not HoleShot either hehe) who buys hay from my uncle. He shows cows all over the country and told me about this Dodge he came across in Iowa. He said while cruising down the interstate, a Dodge 3500 with a topper and stacks passes him. He said it had a very stout sound to it. He said he later pulled into a truck stop for gas and saw that same truck over getting fuel. So he gets into a conversation with the owner and the owner tells him if he is really interested, he'd show him what was in it. So Matt tells me this guy opened up the topper and there was a yellow Cat in the bed. The owner said it was a fun truck only and didn't use it for any work. Matt said the guy said it was a 400 or 425 hp Cat. Everything worked, even the 4 wheel drive. Matt said the guy was awfully creative on making everything work. He also said there wasn't a motor under the hood either.



Don't know if it is true or not, just passing it along. Was kinda hoping someone from Iowa would have posted about this before if it is true.

8.3 cummins

holeshot? what don't you like about an 8. 3? i never knew much about them,until i put one in my f-650. i bought a burned one for parts,took it apart and man,thats a motor! big rods,head with great ports!(i've spent lots of time on a flow bench,so i have an idea whats good)wet sleaves,a big hefty crank,low rpm power! i towed my 30,000lb foklift on my gooseneck trailer (10,000lbs) the other day,just let the clutch out at idle,then gas it,shifted at 1500 rpm,every gear till 10th,then just eased along at 1300 rpms in 10th. 1100. 22. 5 tires,3:73 gears,10 speed direct. i was in no hurry,i could have run 2000 rpms just as easy. ohh,in 10th gear i had 10lbs of boost,just by pushing the pedal i could get 25lbs... power? yes! quiet engine too! no computers either! i like it better all the time. i think i'll keep it!!
 
The 8. 3L doesn't have enough advantages over a B-series Cummins that's already in our trucks.



If the 8. 3L had an engine brake... I'd change my tune in a hurry.



Running a 400hp Cat in the bed of the truck would be pretty interesting. :D
