Ford/Cummins Comming Closer...

Motorhome Repower Quest begins, Gonna need ya'lls advice

Hope this goes well,1st post to the TDR. Converted my 3500HD Chevy diesel to the Cummins. Running a 3053A Spicer 5-speedw/13inch GM clutch. I am in the process of getting my pix downloaded in case anyone interested in seeing them. The truck now weighs with full tank and driver 9370lbs,up somewhat from the stock settup, but with this awesome engine had no trouble with 11,000lbs(a personal record) of gravel added to it. You all at the TDR have been a great source of info. Thanks a lot.

Hi iogle, Welcome, Yes I`m interested in your conversion. I was wondering on the Spicer 3053A 5 Speed is 5th Overdrive or 1 to 1 and what is the Torque Rating on the Tran`s. What Bell Housing did you use. So lets see some pictures

The 3053A is a OD,fully synchroed. The OD is 0. 85. If you want go to the Boyce Equipment website out of Ogden Utah, they have all the ratios posted. The bell housing is a #3,so the starter is on the passenger side, still had plenty of room for the exhaust though. The Cummins came from a salvaged pusher RV so it already had the bell-housing. I did have to change the gear ratio from 5:13 to 4:10 though. The 3053 A Spicer was in the Diesel truck that set the world land speed record for 1-ton and up so it will hold up to the torque, they originally came from the multi-fuel military 6x6 trucks. I am going out of town untill the 1st of april ,so I wll post a new topic with some pix,I will be checking this thread though,if anybody has comments. .

Iogle,

Congrats on the swap! Tell us a little more about your motor, what pump and mods. What is the rated horsepower cumming out of the pusher?

Just wanted to thank folks for the replies, and I will try and post my pix of the Chevy, hopefully by Wed. The Cummins has the P7100, stock settup was 240hp with around 500ft lbs torque. The engine had 12,000 miles on it when I bought it,but because of the severity of the accident the Diesel shop I bought it from went through the motor and double checked everything. So now I am going to try and download these pix...

Anyone want to help me out on posting pictures? Thanks for the help. It is supposed to be sunny here tomorrow so I thought I would take some current photos and post them.

You go to the image in the readers rigs and display it on the screen. right-click on it and go tp properties. Copy the url that's listed there.

Thanks Mark, and yeah I wish all light and medium trucks had the Cummins option. That is the primary reason I bought the HD Chevy in the 1st place,it was the only truck on the market in 1995 w/ standard 15,000GVW,4-wheel disk brakes and 19. 5 rims. My mistake was the diesel option(shoulda bought the big block gas)lost the motor at 48,000. GM replaced no ?s asked, second Goodwrench Diesel started weakening @110,000,that was going to cost me about $5600 installed-so I opted for the conversion. The Cummins is second to nothing, and Dodge deserves a lot of credit for installing it in their rigs. Am going to take some more pix of the engine bay, that picture does not do it any justice. Isaac
