98'bumper w/fog lights on a 96'

How hard is it to wire the Fog lights that are in a 98' bumper to a 96' 2500 truck. (98' bumper is installed now). Is the way to go, to get the factory switch and factory whatever else or another way.

The factory kit is well put together, but the lights themeselves definately leave something to be desired. The kit is a litle over a hundred bucks at www.mopar4less.com Make sure that they understand that you want the older style switch, not the newer 98-up style.
If I was you, though, I would get a PIAA custom bumper mount kit, which replaces the factory grey plastic insert things with a similar part that accepts one of their low profile foglights. They cost about 25 bucks or so, plus the cost of whatever light set you pick out.

How would I find out which wires at the plug on the Fog lights get spliced with the wires at the plug of the truck?

Did your truck come with the fog light option? I assumed not, since you are in the process of installing them! If this is the case, you really need to do the install as if it was any other regular set of aux lights. You'll need to wire them in with a relay triggered by a switch in cab, or the low beams, or both if you desire. Either way, I strongly recommend that you but the factory service manual, which comes with incredibly comprehensive diagrams on every circuit, switch, junction, and piece of electrical tape in your truck. It has paid for itself in the last year for me just with the chapters on wiring alone.

I have a manual, but I don't know which wires on a 98'/w fog lights would correspond with the wires on the 96'. I thought if you could firure out at the plug-ins which wires to splice together, that you then could just buy the factory switch and wires that run to the fuse block.
I have wired fog and pencil beam lights on my Jeep and Suburban, but I was thinking that the factory route would be the way to go.

BG, I get the impression that your 96 truck didn't come with the fog lights? If that is the case, I don't know what wires you would be trying to splice to the fog lamps. You need 12v+ and a ground and a switch in there somewhere. If the truck didn't come with fogs, you will have to run this circuit yourself, start to finish.

I'm pretty sure the 96 and 98's have the same foglight housings. Hopefully someone on this board with a 96 that installed foglites on it still has the intructions that you can borrow. I've never seen a kit yet,but if the kit has a wire harness that you have to run from the cab out to the bumper,then it might be easier and cheaper if you just ran your own wires and relay and bought a fog lite switch. (that's what I would do)

Over the weekend I saw a '00 Ram that had a set of the 96-98 style foglights on it. the guy ran his own wiring and mounted a generic switch for it on the knee panel.

There is a wire/plug hanging down near the front center of the bumper that is 3 wire and the plug on the lights are 3 wire, the problem is the wire colors and plugs don't match.
I thought that the wire was installed allready from factory, but it just did not come with that option. I was hoping to just figure out which wires would splice together and then buy the factory switch/wire that runs from the dash.
I guess, I'm making this more complicated than it needs to be. It may just be easier to run everything new.
