How hard it is depends upon if the bearings have been off the vehicle before or not and how lucky you are this day. The hubs are usually stuck in the knuckle pretty good - unless someone has had them out before and anti-sized them upon reassembly. Check the link below about how to best remove the hub/bearing. The trick with the socket and extension carefully placed and using the power steering to push the bearing out and loose is the ticket to getting them out the easiest. Use plenty of anti-sieze when reassembling. You can pound out the studs yourself to separate the rotor from the hub. They are somewhat difficult to get back in though unless you have a press. I pounded them in as best as I could and then used an impact wrench to pull them the rest of the way into place. Next time I think I will just bring them to a shop and pay them to press the studs back in.

Be VERY careful when pulling the axle shafts out so as not to damage the seals in the axle. It is best to remove the hub/bearing/rotor assembly and leave the shaft in place. Have an assistant give a hand with holding the axle shaft in place while you remove the hub. The axle always wants to come out with the hub assembly and with the weight of the whole thing it is difficult to make sure it comes out straight without damaging the seal. Remove the axle shaft last and try to support the inner end of the shaft evenly as you pull it out. This will give the seal a good chance of surviving and not leaking after reassembly. Lube the splines well before reinserting the axle shaft so it slides easily into the seal. The seal is a PITA to replace.

Just FYI on the Hawk pads... I put a set on my 97. They stopped hard, but pulled badly. Swapped sides, pulled the other way. All the while squealing like a dump truck! I took them off and put on NAPA OEM spec pads. Quiet, no pull, and they stop fine. If you were towing or hauling a lot, I'd probably go with the Hawks, but if you aren't, you might want to give them a second thought. Just my . 02

After you get everything back together, you'll probably see a little leakage from the axle tube. That's OK cause some of the diff oil comes out. If you jack the side up pretty high it minimizes the amount in the tube. Mine leaked a little for a while, like a week or so, until the seal reseated. No leaks now.

Vaughn, it's really not that difficult. One issue would be getting the unit bearing out of the knuckle. Deon has *THE* way to get it out. An alternative is to use a small sledge on the head of the loosened hub bolts (get a couple of sacrificial bolts, or use a possibly sacrificial socket on the head. ) This is the same basic arrangement that Jeep uses on front Dana 30 axles as well. Aside from the bigger components, it's the same as on my 94 Jeep Cherokee.

What I found to be more of a problem was the studs holding the rotor on. Fortunately, a neighbor of my Dad's has a shop press, and did the deed in 20 minutes for me.

These 2 issues aside, it's purely a front disk replacement job.

Those part #'s are not for the frozen/ cryo treated rotors... . try

PSR-8626 csr and PSR-8626csl. I just ordered and received mine from Summit Racing. They sell them for $119. 95 each. Oo.

i called power slots and order them 1-800-323-8456

I went to the summit site if you look I don't think they are the frozen treated power slots rotors

they are just the power slots

rotors

but i will call power slots on thursday to get the story stright

thanks so much

power slots is wrong they tryed to tell me that they never sold to summit wrong and yes I called summit and the frozen cryo sloted roters are $119. 95

I was wrong summit is the way to go well power slots got me for 40 bucks or so well i need to shop around more

slip a bungee thru the axle u-joint to keep it in place when you pull the hub off. I used the socket and power steering trick to pop mine off. Use a hefty socket, like an impact socket. Cheapo made in china socket split on me the first attempt.

Uh, I'd be leery about that Summit/Power Slots situation. If Power Slots is saying they haven't or don't sell to Summit, you may be looking at gray market or false merchandise. Either way, you could have trouble if you need any warranty service.

summit has the power slot logo on there web site

and shows the power slot rotors

well what can i do there on there way from power slots

but i'm looking for some real good break shoes to go on the back

i want this truck to have the best breaks it can

thanks
