i am looking at a 99 2500 xtra cab. it has around 124000 miles. my question is what do i need to look at for problem areas? how do you tell if it has the 53 block besides the crack in the side? what about the v44 pumps? any help would be great.
i dont know how to tell which block it has i would like to find out myself. but as for the pump, if it surges around 2000 rpm with very light accerlation, dead pedal, check for codes if you can. thats about all i know hope this helps
you can see if it's a 53 block by looking below the VP44--- it says 53 in block letters(pretty good size) if it is, if it's not it should be a series or misc #'s--vp 44 is at the front of the engine on the driver's side if you didn't know---if the truck starts fine and runs good on the street and highway then everything should be ok, but that's no guarantee that it will remain that way as you know electronics are fickle----good luck and I hope it works out for you----chris
make sure to check the lift pump. it can fail and the truck will still run "normal" if the pump is bad it may have been dead for some time and the vp44 could be next or the life of it has been shortend.
if there's no guage to check the lift pump you can open the water in fuel bleeder/drain on the fuel filter and crank it over --if it's dribbling the lift pump is shot, but if it jets out of there then the lift pump is working fine... ... ... . chris
i need soom advice! i looked at the truck yesterday. i did not see the big block number 53 under the injector pump. it started up great, no blow by!
now for the advice. i am going to convert my 97 ford to a cummins. i just want me a truck to drive in the mean time. is this truck wroth 9000 that is what he is asking. i would drive it till i get my ford repowered. do yall think that i can get my money back out of this truck? thanks in advance.
i hope the my repower will not take me more than a year.
sorry that question is left to better sooth sayers than I---but have you checked around to see what other '99's are going for--if you're getting a decent deal then it would seem you could possibly recoup your money or at least not take a bath--chris
If your anywhere near CA and if its a stick, then its worth it. I looked all around for a stick and finally had to settle on an 01 with a TC and VB already done.
