I may consider a 99 2500 4x4 5sp qc with 75k mi. It has a 3" lift with 31" tires and banks package and e-brake.

I know the lift pump problems but is the 5th gear nut a problem on this model?

What other considerations with this year model should I be concerned with?

yeah 5th gear nut will want to be fixed but there shouldn't be any problems with it at this stage in the game. 75k isn't that many miles, and it's not a terribly expensive fix. Also check to see if it is a 53block. The 53 blocks have been known to crack, not all of them do but some, so that is something you may want to take into consideration. If you can, take a fuel pressure gauge with you and hook it up to the schrader valve on the IP, see what your fuel pressure is. If it is low, below 6psi or so, damage to the injection pump may have occured. Other than that, just look at the usual things you would look at when buying a used vehicle. Nothing else really comes to mind.

The 53 block is a big problem with trucks from 98-01. My truck is getting the engine pulled & replaced next week because of the dreaded 53 block cracking. Do a search on 53 block & you will come to see how important it is to make sure you don't buy one. The good thing is Cummins stands behind their products, but if you modify the engine in anyway..... warranty void.

There is a good chance that it is a 53 block, look under the injection pump above the pan rail, you should see a number 1" high, if it is a 53, walk away!! If it's not, buy it and toss the Banks kit :D On the 5th gear nut issue, as long as you don't plan on towing a lotta weight right off the bat, you should be good.

I haven't had any problem with the 5th gear nut, but I've heard of it being a common problem.

in the searching I have done on 53 blocks, I have read that of the hundred thousand or so blocks imported for use in RVs, trucks and pickups only 5-10% have the problem with the block cracking. I could be wrong about that though. If you have different information thats cool, i'm always looking to learn.
