Years ago I had Carson Dodge rebuild my transmission under warranty. They had a hard time with replacing many valve bodies as it would lock out in limp mode. then after it stopped going into limp mode it would hesitate coming from a stop wanting to start in 2nd then shift into 1st when giving it throttle. this went on for a while but living in reno and taking off time to take my truck to carson, was ******* off my employer. So I decided to live with it. well that transmission rebuild lasted until the warranty for the rebuild had just expired. So I took it to A-1 trans in Reno, they rebuilt it, and again with the hesitation shifting into 1st gear. they replaced 6 OEM solenoid valves on the valve body then told me I had to have dodge flash the computer to to fix it. that did not work, they replaced 2 more solenoid valves, added some sort of resister, and still the hesitation. I gave up, as I was moving up to Seattle WA. So, I'd Just Baby it. Well with close to 50k on A-1s trans rebuild, and with me reading about someone installing a ford solenoid valve in the dodge valve body, I went down to a transmission shop in Federal way and asked them about my issues with my transmission, he told me that there is an after market solenoid valve that corrected the problems with dodges solenoid valves. I told him to install it, still the hesitation but not as pronounced, he then thought it could be the speed sensor, that did not work. He's out of Ideas short of rebuilding it. doe's ANYBODY have any thing else I can try? When I get back from 3k trip, I'll see if Tom Matson Dodge could tell me If TSB 18-07-99 and 18-08-99 has been done, I just dont know what else to try. HELP!

All the shift solenoids have nothing to do with the 1-2 shift, thats all hydraulic controlled by governor pressure. From your description its the 1-2 shuttle shift problem, start in 2nd, and thats generally caused by low pressure in the gov circuit with the APPS at rest and the gov solenoid\transducer not ramping pressure correctly. The why its not ramping correctly ends being the issue.

There are several fixes for the OE gov solenoid including an updated one from Borg Warner, is that the one you replaced?. That would be first choice to replace then check what the gov pressure is doing as the throttle is opened. If the APPS is bad it will not signal the PCM to start the pressure ramp correctly and you get shuttle.

It seems once you can get over 5 psi or so into the gov circuit with the APPS at rest a lot, if not all, of the shuttle problem disappears. With the newer trucks like mine its a bit easier with a shift enhancer and modifying the TTVA motor, with yours it may take a different route.

Goerend's has had some good luck with a constant pressure VB at curing this problem. If nothing else thta may be an option.

Thank's, I'll take a copy of your responce to the shop that changed the solenoid valve and speed senser tomarrow, and will let you know if works.
