Sometimes my transmission starts out in 2nd gear. A couple of times when it did it, I manually pulled it down to 1st and it downshifted, so I knew that it WAS in 2nd. I thought maybe it was because I might have rolled through a stop without coming to a COMPLETE stop - but a couple of days ago it did it after I had stopped and waited for pedestrians in a parking lot.

It has done it several times over the last 11 months or so, and lately it seems to do it more often (or at least I *notice* it more often). The torque converter was replaced under warranty last August when it wouldn't unlock, and stalled the truck. Now the warranty is out, and the transmission/ TC started slipping a couple of weeks ago, so I had TripleLoc and Stage 4 transmission installed last week. It STILL starts in 2nd sometimes! I think it may be even more noticeable now, with the lower stall speed.

I figure I'll pull the battery cables and clean them sometime this week, but other than that, does anybody have any other ideas?

Almost sounds like your transmission is goint into limp in mode. I had to have a reflash to cure it in my 98. 5 and then after having the ATS canverter and valve body installed, I ended up adding a 100 ohm resister in the wiring harness. It has to do with increased line pressures. You might check with ATS and see if the resistor is still needed. A good transmission shop should be able to read the codes and that should help point you in the right direction.

A couple ideas, anyway... ... ... .

Mine was doing that for awhile, they replaced the shift solinoids a couple times. Seems to have cured it. I ask about getting better quality solinoids, they didn't know of any. Seem some import manu has a lock on the market. Many shops have told me it's a high rate of failure item. Might wanna have um checked out.

Cheers,

Steve J
