Hey guys, this site is great, hopefully somebody here has some insight on my new problem that led me here.

I have a '99 Dodge RAM 2500 QC 4x2 Cummins truck, 100% stock, 165K miles. Yesterday after a trip to the bay area and back I stopped for a few minutes and when I got back in the truck it started fine but fealt like it had no power. It was running fine when parked, but when I left it felt like it had no guts at all. . With the truck in neutral it would rev to the redline quickly etc, but in gear it felt like it fell on it's face. The trans appears to shift, I can hear the turbo spinning and there is no smoke coming out of the exhaust.

I have 10 psi on the lift pump from the post filter port, I hooked up a snap-on scan tool to the computer, there are no diagnostic codes thrown, yet it says I have zero boost, the throttle position sensor goes from 0-100 on the computer. Also I noticed it says I have 12. 6 volts on the scan tool but my volt meter in the truck read higher. I also checked all of the turbo plumbing and it looks correct.

Turbo's, lift pumps, the APPS and the VP44 are all very expensive items to purchase. So I'd like to narrow this down and replace only what is necessary in order to keep from wasting huge $$$$... The truck will drive and it goes through all the gears, it's just slow to get there.

Can you guys tell me how to test these items and other things I should try out before I spend the cash? I do not know of any good cummins techs in the area and I am not fond of my local dodge dealer.

Thank you very much in advance. I have already learned a lot from this great site and spent the money on a full set of gauges today, which unfortunately wont be here for a couple of days...

Thanks again. .

First do the simple things. Change the fuel filter, check the air filter to make sure it is not pluged. Make sure the opening to the air filter is not plugged withy a rag or dead bird or something. Make sure your fuel shut off solenoid is opening all the way with the key on. Dont know about the 24 valves but these are the things I would ck on my 12 valve.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

I changed the filters and gave the truck an oil change etc. today. The problem is still there. . I ordered a MAP sensor and it should be in tomorrow. I will let you know how it turns out.

Ding Ding Ding... TDR 1, my '99 RAM 0

The Map sensor was the culprit. . You guys are on it!

My truck runs like a champ again... In my paranoia I ordered a FASS, Exhaust, Batteries, and a FULL set of gauges... This will all go in my truck over the next two weekends. :)

THANKS A BUNCH GUYS!

So much for the stock in post. Sounds like the beginning of a slide down the slippery slope. While your at it, I'm thinking you still might want to look at those injectors, an Edge Box, and your clutch... . Oo. Oo.

LOL ... I've been trying to behave on my truck. Course I'll probably need a new clutch which means new injectors which means...

I have been wanting to make some mods to my truck for quite a while. The Automatic Transmission is starting to fail and I have always said when it goes I will replace it with a built unit and then mod the truck. So... I talked to Dave Goerend and I will be ordering one of his transmissions as soon as I am done with this spending spree. From there I will get a Power Edge Comp and some kind of air intake. At that point my truck should be pretty sweet. Too bad it's not a 4x4, cause then it'd be everything I want. Anybody ever convert from 2wd to 4wd???

Thanks again, and yes I love the TDR.

My MAP sensor on my '99 went out while towing a loaded stock trailer... not fun. Power... no power... power... no power... power... no power... . It was a loooonnnnnnngggggg 100 miles to get back home. :( I had a feeling on yours from my own experience! :-laf Glad we could help!
