Hey guys, this site is great, hopefully somebody here has some insight on my new problem that led me here.
I have a '99 Dodge RAM 2500 QC 4x2 Cummins truck, 100% stock, 165K miles. Yesterday after a trip to the bay area and back I stopped for a few minutes and when I got back in the truck it started fine but fealt like it had no power. It was running fine when parked, but when I left it felt like it had no guts at all. . With the truck in neutral it would rev to the redline quickly etc, but in gear it felt like it fell on it's face. The trans appears to shift, I can hear the turbo spinning and there is no smoke coming out of the exhaust.
I have 10 psi on the lift pump from the post filter port, I hooked up a snap-on scan tool to the computer, there are no diagnostic codes thrown, yet it says I have zero boost, the throttle position sensor goes from 0-100 on the computer. Also I noticed it says I have 12. 6 volts on the scan tool but my volt meter in the truck read higher. I also checked all of the turbo plumbing and it looks correct.
Turbo's, lift pumps, the APPS and the VP44 are all very expensive items to purchase. So I'd like to narrow this down and replace only what is necessary in order to keep from wasting huge $$$$... The truck will drive and it goes through all the gears, it's just slow to get there.
Can you guys tell me how to test these items and other things I should try out before I spend the cash? I do not know of any good cummins techs in the area and I am not fond of my local dodge dealer.
Thank you very much in advance. I have already learned a lot from this great site and spent the money on a full set of gauges today, which unfortunately wont be here for a couple of days...
Thanks again. .
Alan
