PS Illflem, Cummins uses the flow system for logistics.

Most of our parts for manufacture/assembly are only days old.

Well there goes the theory of old parts laying around and being used on new 24 valve motors. Anybody else have a KDP failure on a 24 valve motor? If so what is the manufacture date on the motor?

So much for the theory on Cummins end but what about Dodge's?

When I did a poll on kdp failures a few months ago two '99s and eleven '98s replied they had a failure. The '98s were not broken down between 12 and 24 valve. The poll was also in the 12 valve forum where some 24 valvers may not have seen it.

The Cummins part number as of 9/98 for the P-pump gear housing was 3923898.

The updated housing for the P-pump is 3936256.

The Dodge part number for the updated P-pump housing is 04761241AB. The suffix letters indicate that it is the second revision to the part number.

If I recall correctly, an early updated housing that I saw had the date of manufacture on the box of 2/99.

I wonder how many high mileage (= out of warranty) engines have made it back to Cummins for KDP repair. It may be that a large percentage of those which failed were handled outside of the Cummins network.

Got this back from Cummins when I sent them the information on this thread.

Summary: 59024 KDP Dowel pin, improved case question

Solution:

Thanks for your Email message.

You can't always believe what you read on various websites. The old gear cases will not work on 24 valve engines. The VP44 injection pumps will not bolt up for on thing. The dowel pins can not physically come out of 24 valve engines.
