Man this has been an ordeal and a half. I need some advice and possible solutions. I drive a 99' 3500 c&c with the solid front axle. In a lot of cases it takes 4x4 parts even though it is a 4x2. The current situation is the front rotors. Driver's side was thin on the inside, got a replacement from NAPA along with bearings for both sides (or so I was told). Dropped by a local shop for the front brake job friday, and the fun began. Tech didn't have a socket to fit the axle nut, had to borrow one from the dodge shop across the street. Got the nut off, then the rotor would not come off (original part at 265000 miles). Used the 3lb hammer method, shattered the thin side but did get it off. Then tells me I brought the wrong parts. That the rotor I need is a one-piece unit with the bearing hub assembly already pressed into it and it is gonna run about $300 from dodge. I asked if the NAPA bearings and rotor could possibly fit directly onto the shaft since the rotor has races already in it. Was told nope, have to have the other unit. So now I'm hitchhiking to work on monday while they try to locate a rotor for tuesday delivery and maybe I'll get my truck back by wednesday. Any suggestions out there? :{
