Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) '99 Fuel filter change.

Did my first fuel filter change on my '99 yesterday. Got tired of the dealers outrageous prices. 30 minutes and $25.



Filled canister with diesel after removing and cleaning. Reinstalled canister with new filter. Removed inlet plug on filter housing and topped off (lift pump does not work for priming due to a hard start TSB having been applied that did not fix the problem). Hit the key and it fired right up, never even stubbled! Oo.

You say the lift pump will not prime ,due to hard start ? and Tsb applied did not work. If the lift pump will not run for a few seconds you need a new pump. The canister will fill up just open the other plug on top of filter ,turn key to on wait watch gauge it should show a swing to about 12 psi for a second then return to about 0 turn off and do it again diesel should be pumping out of canister tighten plug bump starter at least two times put pedal to floor crank engine may take a few tries but most time will start . Trust me...

if you know enough about this TSB (I don't remember the #), you would understand. Due to the TSB, bumping the starter does not work; the lift pump will not run when you bump the starter. When you key on to run position, it will run for about 1 second and produce about 2#s of pressure for a second. This is not moving enough fuel to fill the canister in a timely fashion. Once the truck is running, the pump runs and produces the pressures as the rest of them do.



I will post the TSB number if I can find it, but it is still hard to find information on exactly what they do. Trust me. If you had this TSB, you would understand! Be glad you don't!
