I have an original overhead console and last winter it went blank for a while. When the weather warmed up, it came back to life. However, when I start up it shows 2217mi and 28:40 hrs:mins on the display when I scroll through the readings (It doesn't remember what it was before it was turned off). Also, the compass shows E and the temperature shows 44 degrees for a few minutes and then starts showing what I think is pretty close to the correct direction and temperature.
I took it down and pulled and reseated the two wiring connections (main and computer edge connector) and then did the self diagnostic test (hold both buttons, turn key to run) and it showed PASS. It still doesn't remember the stored miles and timer (it doesn't show zero, it resets to 2217mi and 28:40 hr:min when the engine is restarted).
Before I buy a new console with integrated computer on eBay for $100+, I want to make sure there isn't something else wrong besides the computer.
Any ideas?
