I am currently looking at purchasing a 99 SBQC automatic with 170K miles on it.

From the pictures I have seen(it's about 200 miles away), it looks good and the salesman says it's good. I am considering looking at it.

What do I need to watch out for in a truck this old? They have reportedly done the steering linkage and other front end work and, according to the vin, the only recall that wasn't done was the secondary hood latch. (I assume the lift pump was in there).

Anything else to watch out for?

Thanks

jeff

CHECK IT FOR THE 53 BLOCK. If it has one which is very likely and it cracks you are in for a nightmare. If it is a 53 tell the salesman to discount 6k or replace and you will buy it. Otherwise I would pass on this and find something else.

I would expect the LP will need to be changed, and check the fuel pressure. For sure I would avoid purchasing a 53 block. For the LP under recall; I got my 99, all the the recalls have been done (except the trailer hitch) and it still had the original LP in it, the original LPs have ring terminal power connections at the base of the LP as apposed to a plastic plug.

Thanks for the info. I figured if it had gone 170k it would have had to be replace. I'll look for the plug.
