I ordered the Westach guage for my '99 truck with the guage pod that goes on the steering column.

I'm assuming that the fitting that shipped with the sending unit replaces one of the bolts in the test ports at the top of the filter. Does it make any difference which one? It looks like the sending unit threads on the supplied fitting, correct? Does the engine vibration cause any problems with the sending unit? Do I need to use teflon tape on the threaded fittings?

The wiring pigtail that was supplied with the guage is fairly short. What power source have you tied into for the guage, assuming that you did not have the Painless Wiring block.

Hopefully the questions aren't too stupid.

Thanks for the help

I ordered the same gauge from Genos and complete instructions came with it. It was fairly easy to install and if my memory is accurate all the questions you ask were answered.

Buy the grease gun hose and mount the sender away from the vibration of the engine since others have reported they fail after a bit of vibrating. I mounted mine to the bottom of the hydroboost unit and master cylinder. I also bought a snubber from McMaster Carr to help with pulsations from the pump. Seems to have helped as my pressure stays stable. I didn't use any teflon on my sender either.

I've done searches on the switched power for the guage. Most tap into the cigar lighter, but no one says how to get that sucker out. It looks impossible to get to it from the back side.

Like Rob, I mounted my sending unit by the master cylinder. <image src=http://gatewaydieselownersassociation.com/images/jpg/how_tos/FP_1999/sender_bracket.jpg>

I don't have a snubber on mine, and I don't see any pulsations.
