Something built a nest in my air intake duct which ended up in the stock air filter, Fourtunately the filter didn't rupture but was tottaly clogged. Don't know how long I drove like this but just finished a quick 2,500 mile roundtrip, probably w/clogged filter. Likely damage this might have caused?

Secondly, only replacement availble other than Fram was a WIX brand filter ,supposedly better than Fleetguard. While it looks like OEM or Fleetguard,it has a added layer of foam on the intake side that might restrict airflow. Anyone know the 'WIX' brand and it's acceptability for the Gen 2 24 valve engine?

The stoppage of the air filter was caused by mice or rats small in size . No matter what filter you replace it with the entrance point is still open to the critters that built the nest. I recommend that you get some Hardware, wire cloth (looks like little 1/4 in square metal screen ) Put over end of intake and over any holes that you added to the bottom or side of air box . That should keep the critters out. In mean time clean all way to turbo . Clean the filter tap blow it out and replace in box . Most likely its still in good shape as the stuff is large that it stopped and just needed to be taken out . Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY . PS I have some hard ware cloth in the shed and will make one for my truck today.

Wix filters.

I have used both WIX air filters and oil filters on both my CTDs since each was purchased new with no adverse affects. The '92 has over 230,000 miles on it and the '99 has over 143,000 miles on it. I know that Dodge does not recommend the Wix oil filter for these engines, but I also know that Wix has stood behind the one engine oil filter that did go bad and put a brand new cummins crate engine in the 1st gen truck. Lots of people here say don't use the Wix oil filters, but I can live with a company like that. Wix also revised the filter that is recommended for CTDs after this happened. ;)
