Just by reading through the post, I think it proves that every truck has a spot or application in this pick up truck world. One is not necessarliy better than the others, it just has an application different than what it was used for.

p. s. I would buy a dodge, or chevy. no fords or imports for me.

Man tough one - I really like the hemis but that new Nissan just seems to catch my eye when I see it - the bed options are nice for a contractor too

I can not remember the exact year, before my time, but I believe it was a 78/79 Ford 3/4 ton Highboy.

Or a new F550, or a FL60/70.

If Dodge made a 5500 in the US, I would buy that first.

Yeah I don't know why Dodge has their head up their a** when it comes to making a 5500 or a 6500 truck they would probably get a lot more customers  :D

Rich,

The 3/4 ton 4x4 Ford Highboy was discontinued in mid 1977 with a major mid year change. The body style stayed the same, but the truck was lowered and the drivetrain was changed. The main changes to the drivetrain was going from the FE 360-390 motor, remote transfer case and powersteering cylinder w/draglink valve to the 351/400M motor, married transfercase and regular powersteering box. Since you mentioned the Ford, I thought you might be interested in the info :) , they were very popular trucks.

CGriffith: You could order a V10 3V engine this past summer. The old 2V design was available till about May in order form. There are people driving them around now... to the tune of 350 HP I think. I believe the old 2V engines were good for 310-315 HP.

I'd buy a GM. If you can't get a diesel, you can't get a real truck anyway, so might as well go with the car-with-the-bed-on-back.
