New Dodge Truck Engine? 36K HP .........

Can ya take the heat...chili peppers :-)

Hello all

Hemidart check out ebay item #533844596.

I am building an old Dart and want to know if anyone has put a Magnum 360 truck motor in anything, with fuel injection, or put the intake system from a truck on a crate motor?
Also, with some welding naturally, will pre 73 Dart sheetmetal (whole front clip) fit on 73 and newer?
I would fix up an older one, but the 73 I have has air, plus already has power disc brakes and power steering, just an ugly front end.
Lil bro is a bodyman, so if the pieces actually "fit" putting them on is no problem.
Also heard a few Ford 9" rearends are very close to A body width, anyone know? Just in case I cant find an 8 3/4.

73 is in great shape, very little rust anywhere, but a dent on the ugly nose. Very straight. 318 and registered and driving, heater works dang good!

Considering a 300 or 380 HP crate, I also have a 1968 440 and 1968 383, but 300 horse would be pretty good.
Also I have a 727B from a truck, can I take the tailshaft from a 727A to run it in the car? Rebuilt 200 miles ago with stage 2 shift kit, so wanna keep it!

Thanks

Eric

Eric,

I did see that HemiDart @ E-Bay. Not an original Hurst SS car but looks nice. The high bid is still a fraction of the cost of an original. #ad

I'm not to up to date on the newer truck small block magnum motors. I don't think the heads will interchange with the crate motors. Some parts will, but some won't.

Sorry again. I'm not real knowledgeable on A-body cars as to parts interchangeability.

The '69 Dart has the nicest body lines. (IMO) They are getting tougher to find.

I think you would be better off with a small block in your dart. Overall easier to do. The 380 HP crate smallblock would pull it around well.

I hear ya. Might investigate the 70-72 market pretty close, I know they cost more but they also resell for more when you go to sell. They always bring more bucks than a 73-newer. You could put all your power stuff you like on a 70-72.

Check out my webpage. I have a friends number on their who owns an old bone yard full of old muscle car stuff named Mark, tell him I sent ya and he'll treat you good if he has the stuff you need. Another place to look is http://www.moparts.com/moparts/partsindex.html

Go with an 8 3/4. The 9" is much heavier and takes more power to turn compared to the 8 3/4. Mark just sold an 8 3/4 last week. Not sure if he has anymore right now?

You might also email...

He class races a 71 Demon and has alot of A body knowledge and sells some parts every now and again. I've seen him come up with some hard to find 30+ year old stuff several times.

I know it,s still a long way off, but the Mopar Nats is the place to find anything you could want for your car. It,s also the largest gathering of Mopar folks in the country every year. Dates this year are august 10,11, and 12.

The 70-76 unibody will accept any of those years front clip.

The 73 has the desirable K frame and engine mounts. Also, it has the larger more reliable disc brakes.

An 8 3/4" axle will nto have the large bolt pattern axle shafts; consider an 8 1/4" which will have the large bolt pattern that matches the front end, available gearing to change to 3. 23's or so, and will easily hold up to the power you want with the low weight.

The tailshaft in any 727 will interchange with any other 727. If the stock transmission was a 904/998, you will need to shorten the driveshaft and find the proper slip yoke to fit the 727.

Any other questions, feel free to email me directly, I have three of these critters and have done a bunch of others.

I used to own a 74 Duster 360. Factory car. 4 speed.
It was mostly stock. Didnt really go till I replaced the 8 1/4" 3. 23 rear with a 8 3/4" with 4. 10's. #ad
#ad

Also owned a 68 sattelite(383)also had a 73 Cuda 340. This had the 4 speed with pistol grip shifter.

I often thought about a big block (raised) in an A body. Still may do it someday.

FYI Ed Hamburger had his shop about 2 miles from where I grew up. Spent many $$$ there.

Yes indeed. I also had a chance to buy a 68 GTX 440 4 speed. IT WAS A CONVERTABLE!!!
Could have got it for less than $1000. 00. It was in need of resoration, but complete. This was about 10 years ago.
Geez I could kick myself for not buying that one... .....

yes , its been answered , the front sheet metal from the earlier dart will bolt right on , but you must swap everything , hood and all , plus lose that ugly front bumper , you can also swap the rear bumper from a 72 demon or duster .

yes max they had the 360 in the dart sports and dusters in 74 with a 4 speed and a 4 barrel carb , also put them in cudas and challengers . FYI

there is also the mopar atlantic nationals at englishtown NJ . first weekend in june , but that a bit far for zeeew to travel .

get an 8 1/4 rear , that will be the cheapest swap and a bolt in .

as far as the intake from the magnum motor , don't waste your time , its not tuned for a performance street car , i think you can swap the throttle body onto a regular alum intake and adapt the injectors to it , but thats alot of work , mopar is supposed to be releasing a manifold to do this very swap.

Thanks to all for the replies.
The 69 looks good to me too, like the taillights. Thought about how neat it would be to have "more power" as I drove it to work this morning, plus wondering what it would be like with that cool twin scoop hood.
Planned on hood, fenders, bumper, grill, etc, just needed to know if it would fit or not.
The 71 shell out there next to it does look more lke a race car, bucket seats, center console, etc. If find an older one in good shape not reason not to just build it instead. Probly just as easy to put oem air into an older car, as to switch all the sheetmetal.
Car wont be all original anyway, not in the plans.
I was planning on using the aftermarket 5 on 4 1/2 axles in an 8 3/4, but if we can find an 8 1/4 it could certainly fill in, at least til I breakit! #ad

Our chances of coming across parta are pretty good, I have connections with a tow place. What car/year do I need for an 8 1/4, 8 3/4, etc that fit an A-body?

Thanks to all!

QDR25004x4, it's black.
What color is your truck? Ever get down to the Seaside area?

Mopar Muscle, any 360 4spd car now would be either rare or nonexistant. Flywheels for these monsters are hard to come by. A factory option would be worth documenting.

Zeeew, the 8 3/4" axle was used till 1970 in the A body, then the 8 1/4 took its place. You will need to look under any Valiant, Duster, Dart or Demon, since this was the narrowest of the Mopars in that era.

Patriot... I was jus in Toms River last weekend... I was asking cause I saw a 12V at the Stapeles with an Amsoil sticker on it. I've been doing every other weekend down the TR area for the last 3 years. . My truck is Black too. JB

While we are on the subject of A-Body cars, I found this picture takin at Mopar Atlantic Nationals Englishtown, N J around '92.

Some of us will recognise the car.

This is one of the nicest 'Pro Street' cars I have ever seen. John Haffner is the builder/owners name. That is him on the left.

He used to drive it to all the shows. Rarely trailered. He has won a ton of trophys.

These are the specs I remember:

69 Dodge Dart Sport. Original 6 cylinder car.
66 HEMI solid lifter engine
Kellog crank
Compression 8. 5-1
Hampton 6-71 Supercharger
Narrowed Dana 60
21x33x15 Mickey Thomson tires (rear)
4-Link Suspension.
Crager Dragstar Wheels
Twin Holley Dominators

This was not an all out race car, but a dependable cruiser that wouldn't overheat. Man you should have seen the crowd flock around the car when he pulled in! #ad

AWSOME CAR !!!!!

One time after trip down to Richfield, Utah, 2 years ago, I decided to take my time going back to SLC and check out every junk yard in the central Utah area for A body parts. Found a few A bodies with 8 3/4 rear ends, trucks with the 8 3/4 diffs still there, good hard to find body trim pieces (even 67 thru 69 Barracuda stuff), uncracked dashes, etc. Sometimes just a simple country drive can yield lots of gold. Most of the junk yards were hard to find and didn't even know what cars they had in stock let alone the good parts still there.
