a/c clunk noise

Hey guys virtually everytime i start my truck and turn on my a/c it sounds like one of my vent doors is either being slammed open or shut. I could just be being paranoid but it does it when i'm driving to. I'm guessing when the a/c compressor turns off and on. I have no idea what the sound is and the dealer has had my truck enough times for a/c work that they will never see my truck for a/c work again. It doesn't seem to have effected my a/c operation but that scares me and i don't want it causing a big a/c problem latter. Is this thunk noise normal or not. Sometimes its louder or quieter but it fluctuates. What could this sound be?

My '05 makes a similar noise. On mine it is the compressor engaging. It is louder than any I have heard before but everyone says it is normal and so far my AC works fine. Mine does it worst the first time when I turn the AC on, then it's usually not as loud each time it engages.

My 04. 5 does the same thing . It's the compressor as Diesel Dually said.

I have on 04 and don't no forsure what it is but it sure is loud most of the time lol. So far so good

My '03 makes a clunk when I switch on the AC too. I thought it was a blend door, or something like that, closing off. It's entirely too loud to be under the hood.

My 04. 5 does the same thing . It's the compressor as Diesel Dually said.

Mine does it too... sometimes worse than others... it really clunked the other day... hard enough I felt it in the cab... but it works fine otherwise...

My 05 does it, too, and it is loudest the first time the compressor engages. Everytime my wife hears it, she says "take your truck in and have it looked at!"

My 05 does this as well. It is the compressor engaging. It seems to real loud when the truck has set for long period of time in the hot Texas sun and I turn the A/C on for the first time. After that the noise is considerable less.

Mine does it too,sometimes louder than others. Does not seem right I guess if it shoots through the radiator Dodge might fix it.

Mine just went off yesterday morning. After several 100 degree days here in california, I let my truck sit for 2 days,,, then fired it up... then clack clack the a pushing of air sound followed up with a broken serpentine belt sound,,, all normal! Popped the hood,,, all was well, AC is blowing cold air and I am happy!



What type of oil does the AC unit take? I may be forced to put some Amsoil-Red Line in there if possible... Let me know team.

AC clunk

I have an 06 MegaCab with the 3d gen and the AC does the same thing.

This truck is less than 2 months old. It is very loud.

so do you guys also here a hissing noise right after the loud clunk. What Might that sound be?

Never heard a hissing noise after the " clunck". But then again the tunes are usually up a ways ! :-laf

Oh ya,,, the sound of pushing air. It is like a blow off of some sort. Mine has done this 10 times in 2 years.
