2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A/C compressor clutch staying on?

It seems that my A/C compressor clutch will cycle on and off regardless of selection choice (i. e. heat, a/c, defrost etc... ) and independant of temperature selection. I do believe that compressors are supposed to cycle in the defrost mode and obviously in A/C operations, but is it normal to have it constantly cycle in all other selctions and temps? It has been doing this since I picked up the vehicle. I have not addressed this issue to the dealer yet. Thanks for your feedback. -frank.

there are only two settings that do not use the a/c they are "vent dash only" and "vent floor only".

Chip- Thanks for the response. I'll keep an ear on what you said when I leave work tonight, but I seem to recall that it is on in those setting too.
