Re: TTT

well my a/c condensor guard is finished up, painted and mounted. the mesh on it is pretty open and i am hoping i will not have problems with it and effecting the air conditioning system. if it doesn, well i can always remove it. the mesh stands about 3/4" off the face of the condensor. honestly i don't use the a/c that much in the summer, i prefer driving with the windows down... but time will tell on this little project...

pictures are avalable here for those who want to see pictures of it...

the above link has some pictures of an a/c condensor guard that i am in the process of making. there is a lip on the top and bottom to protect the top/bottom of the condensor. i still need to paint it up and weld on some brackets to mount it with the same hardware that the factory condensor brackets are mounted at, but this is my take on this condensor guard. so far, i have less than $50 CDN invested into this. i had a friends local metal shop bend up the angled sheet metal for me, and the wire mesh is left over from an other project that never was completed [it was homedepot's wire mesh 24"x24"]

i will update the pictures when i get it completed. .

Nick,

That looks great. I was thinking along those lines as well. I have the wire mesh. I just need to find someone with a welder and some time. Looks like it will provide plenty of protection for your consenser.

What size angle iron did you use and what were the final dimensions of the frame?

i had a family friend at a metal fab shop bend up some 14g sheet steel into 2x 1/2" x 5/8" angle for the sides, 1x 1/2" x 1-1/2" for the top, and 1x 1/2" x 1" for the bottom. on the sides, the 5/8" is the flat front face & the 1/2" is the side face, and top & bottom the 1/2" is the front face and the longer side is the top/bottom face.

the overall [outside] size of the frame is ±24-5/16" wide & ±22-1/2" high. the width was designated by the width of the wire mesh which was 24" wide, and the height was designated by the height of the condensor plus a bit.

the brackets holding the guard in place was just some 1-1/4" flat stock i got from the metal shop at the same time as the angle and bent up at home using this little metal bending jig in a vice.
