2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission a/c evaporator

Has anyone changed the evaporator core in their trucks? I had a slow leak the freon would stay in for about 3 months now it stays only two weeks. I put in the die to find the leak and it seems to be comming out of the drain tube. Is it hard to get at? Thanks Rick M

I have an 02 with the exact same problem. Talked to an A/C shop and they said they would do it for 700-750 bucks. that is parts and labor. They said it takes them 6 and a half hours. I asked if it was something they had dealt with before and they said they had done several. So for now I am gonna just keep putting refridgerant in it until I can come up with the money to get it fixed. i havent done any leak test but i can find nothing greasy under the hood to indicate a leak and my A/C vents stay coated with a nice greasy film that does an excellent job of collecting dust.



P. S. from what i understand, the dash has to just about come all the way out.

Thank you Blake for the information. I can not afford to pay anyone to do it so i will do it. I started to pull apart the dash today. It will not be easy.

Finally someone answers my problem without telling me to do a search... ... .

Been there done that last summer in my '98 The evap had a silt line 1 1/4" up the coils from leaf mold and needles because Dodge (hint Dr. Z) too lazy to install inlet screens on the air intakes (that's what plastic screening and cable ties are for!!). It IS a big job because you must drop the heatbox (ductwork) from under the dash, break the heater core lines, and reinstall—without busting vacuum motors from the dampers, etc. Would be much easier if that heatbox had been sectionalized like the old Nissans and Toyotas.
