A/C - needs an upgrade

What is the deal with the a/c, when I drive my 2001 diesel in the big city (rochester, N. Y. )The temp gauge goes nuts and the a/c is junk. What can be done to fix this? It only takes 5 minutes go from one end of the city to the other.

My A/C was not getting cold enough. Dealer added more Freon but could not find a leak. Works fine now.

I guess I should do that. My dealer is in jail now for not paying off trade in loans. I have to find a different dealer.
