I had the A/C recharged last week (Ok, I put two cans of R134 in it- had some sticker saying it was compatible with both types. I DO plan to get it done right later this month- I am just between jobs right now and need to cut a corner or two) . When I compared it to Mom's A/C (which I think is borderline as far as fan speed goes; great for temp), hers blows a lot faster, though my air is nearly as cold as hers. What should I check? The 93 FSm is no help- it has troubleshooting for noisy and non-operating fans, but not slow ones. I will check the ducts, doors, and the like, and report back here if anything is obvious. Girlfriend thinks it may be the motor (she works at a shop, and pays attnetion to what causes what problems, so it's not like your average g/f giving advice..... "Uhmmm, Blinker fluid?" ) I'm hoping it's not, cause that looks like a real PITA to get to.

Update

Ok, took half the dash apart, looked in the suitcase, and it looked cleaner than the pics in the link you referred to. Then I remembered the story about the P. O. burning up the downpipe, along with the rest of the hoses and ducts under the dash, so that was all new. (guy was a REAL ditz). Or it should be new. He could have dusted it off and let it go.

Got a decent blast of air from the vent when I pulled the tube/box thingie in front of the shifter, and had it all coming out on just the floor. Thought "Woo-Hoo- I got this licked now. " Went and got some weather stripping, as some of the ducting connections were allowing air to leak by. Got it all back together, and let the Si I had used in the middle set up a little while. IN the meantime I put "new" plastic sheeting on the inside of both door panels, and when through with that, fired her up. Not just a heck of a lot better, though I can now drive down the road without a hot draft coming from the passenger side. I had vacuumed out the evaporator, and got a little stuff out. I have cold air to the vents now, just not much of it. Not near as noisy or voluminous as the 04 Dakota. Could I need a new blower? How do I go about checking it out and making sure it isnt something else?

Maybe check out the resistor assembly for the blower motor and bypass it by putting straight 12V to the blower. If it blows faster than on "High" speed on the dash control, you've got a problem w/ the switch/resistor. If it still blows slow, definitely the blower motor.

I had considered running a relay that would power the blower directly from that bat when on high. When I measured the voltage at my motor it was getting alittle over 10v. Haven't gotten around to it yet though.

My 1990 will not blow near as fast as the late model but it seems to blow much colder air. Even with the plugged evaporator box.

My ears get numb.

Maybe 'cause it's a smaller cab?

That aint all that is going on in there :-laf. Seriously, I think it just needs a new drier and h-valve along with a proper recharge. It still seems a little slow.

GL- I tried your little cycling switch bypass, and got cold in the cab yesterday, but then the air got really slow- makes me thing the eveporator may have gotten a little icy. I turned it off and went with the 2-60 AC for a while.

thanks for all the input so far, guys.
