My a/c stopped blowing cold air! The compressor cycles so I figured it was low on freon. I took the truck to A/C shop and had them check out the pressures. They said the pressures are fine but I should try replacing the orifice and drier. They also told me that moisture builds up in the lines and it may look like the pressures are correct. It seems to me they didnt know what was wrong and just wanted to start replacing things. The temp blows about 78 F with ac on max.

I pulled the low pressure switch and jumpered the wires to keep the clutch engaged and the air was blowing colder. (dont have temp gauge yet) I dont want to replace some parts and it not fix the problem. The truck sits all week and I only drive it on the weekend. I figure I should try this site before I let anyone touch it. If anyone knows of a good A/C repair man around Austin, TX let me know because it is HOT! Thanks

My AC problem was the evaporator that is located behind the dash of our trucks. My mechanic (who is top notch) tried for three months to locate where it was leaking gas from. BtW he never charged me for any work. His moto is if I didn't fix it, its no charge. Finally after the thrird time of filling her up with dye they found it by looking up the drip hose I believe and they saw all the dye they had been pumping into here there. He recommend I take it to the dealer since you must pull the whole dash in order to get to the evaporator. Its not cheap, the book says it's a eight hour job at $85 an hour plus parts. :{ Anyway the heater core is back there to so I had them replace that as well since they were in there. The main reason I had the dealer do it is because once they put it back together there are still no squeaks in the dash :D.

So if you cannot find a leak anywhere in the system it is most likely the evaporatetor. Hope thats not it. $1500 bucks for me to replace the evaporatetor and heater core.

Well, I found out it was my evaporator core that was leaking. The mechanic put his sniffer to the hose that goes through the firewall and the thing started beeping real fast. now I am wondering if I should take it to a dealer or let him fix it. They quoted me $1050 + tax to fix it. He said dodges are notorious with this problem! If I take it to a steeler will they put the same thing in or a better product? I will talk to them in the morning and see what they say. Thanks for the reply!
