My A/C just quit on me and the clutch is not pulling in. I jumped the cycle switch on the accumulater and it ran for a few minutes and quit again, there isnt any power at that connecter tested w/test light. I was installing freon at that time. Can I jump across the A/C relay terminals that supply voltage to the clutch and run it that way without problems for temporary only of course. Texas diesel rally in the morning and no time to find the problem until later and way toooo hot to go without.
Thanks
John

Deezul1--NO,NO,NO,NO. The controls on the system are there to protect the system, AND to protect anyone working on the system. IF you have a control holding the system out, determine WHICH control is open, and that will tell you what has to happen next. BUT-DO NOT run it "jumped out", as the next repair bill might be for a new compressor, and maybe a new skull for you. Remember, your dealing with potentially HIGH pressures! Give more specifics and maybe I can help you. Ron

I bypassed the hi pressure limit switch, its the one down by the compressor right? and it seems to work fine. I have been having intermittent problems with it not cooling at a stop light and the compressor cycling on/off but cooling fine once I am moving until today when it quit cooling and the compressor wouldnt engage.

deezul , my 98 had a fuse for the clutch in the underhood poewer distribution box and it blew , i put in a new one it blew , took to dealer and it was the compressor . check for that fuse and see if its blown , compressor is $400 from DC ... ouch

It quit B4 I added Freon which is why I was doing that and thats when I noticed that the compressor wasnt engaged. When I jump the hi pressure limit switch the compressor engages fine and it gets cool but I am afraid to drive it that way. Today I restored the hi limit plug back to the switch and it worked for a while and then wouldnt work any more at all. It was very hot and humid today also. Could this be a faulty hi limit switch? or something worse?
Thanks
