As many of you know, these trucks have a problem with the air Dodge cant seem to get a fix for. I have posted on this for about one year. I refuse to go through arbitration because I like the truck and it is paid for. The problem is the air will not hold a constant temperature on the passenger side. It just plain out quits cooling for about 15 seconds at a time. My truck is a SLT without dual zone controls. I have ten reciepts from the past year from all blend doors being replaced to the freon being checked. I want to add my dealer is being more than accomodating. They even set me up in a rental every time it has been in for service. I met with the dealers service manager last Tuesday and the D. M. over service for the South East. The D. M. and service manager rode in the truck with me. The D. M. held his hands over both of the middle vents and felt the temperature difference. Today I am going in for a stab at it with a fix suggested by Chrysler engineering. They are going to move a temperature sensor on the evaporator to see if this helps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. A few of you have responded in the past and I thank you for your efforts. So far nothing has cured this problem.

Thanks- Chuck

I just noticed this the other day on my truck. I drive quite often w/o a passenger and because it has been so hot recently I have one of the passenger side vents tilted towards me. Let us know what you find out and if you find a fix. Good luck!

I have the same problem that I noticed 3 weeks ago. I took it to the dealer and they ordered blend door parts which took 2 weeks to arrive-parts were on backorder. They finally installed the parts and claimed that the problem was fixed. Well today it is 35C outside and the problem is still there, although not as bad as before. I think the problem is the evaporator as it seems to happen more at low rpm and when engine speed changes, at steady speed the temp seems to be pretty even. I do not think it is the fin temp sensor as this only cycles the compressor off to prevent freezing which does not seem to happen much during hot weather.

A friend of mine just bought an '05 Laramie. His air died on him. He had it fixed and it died again in the same day. Do not know the specifics of the problem but I will let him see this thread.

Cheers,

Mine does the exact same thing, I wonder if there will be a TSB on this. My truck is a 2005 Laramie with out the dual zone controls.

Funny thing---

I saw this thread last night and wondered if mine did it. I dropped the woman's car off for a brake job today, and as she was driving me back to work in my truck...

The passenger air went warm and cold, warm and cold, over and over. How annoying.

Glad I spend most of the time in the driver's seat :D

I'm not going to have a dealer hack mechanic tear apart my dash to fix it. I'll just live with it.

I have an early 03 I bought in 10/02 and it has done it from day one. Dealer says its normal and they can't redesign it to work better.

Well I got the truck back yesterday 7-12. It is better but it still will not hold temperature on the passenger side. They replaced the evaporator and a fin temp sensor. I will persue this futher and keep everyone informed.

The cooling and blowing on my '03 3500 Laramie has gotten weaker and weaker to non-existent on trips from Colorado Springs to Denver (60 miles). I can hear the fan blowing but nothing comes out of the vents. I solved the problem temporarily by punching off the A/C, after which the air begins blowing like hell again out of the vents after a few minutes. I let it blow for awhile until the air begins to warm up, then punch on the A/C button and everything is normal for awhile. This gets the job done, but obviously it doesn't say much for the truck's air conditioning system. I think something is freezing up and shutting off the compressor allows it to thaw out. Truck goes in Monday under extended warranty. We'll see what the dealer says the problem is.

My Grandson's 03 Laramie is doing this same thing, but mine, which is exactly alike, does real fine! It gets SUPER cold on either side! Hope someone gets a finger on it!

Cooling issues in '03 trucks

More trucks' cooling systems might falter if driven on longer trips. The vast majority of my trips are fewer than 40 minutes, which is about when the problems begin. But it seems fixable. If I can shut off the compressor and get the AC going again, it seems like a problem the dealer should be able to rectify. I'll keep you posted.

I have replaced my lower case section because of the defrost flap breakage problem and have also done some experimentation with the amount of refrigerant in the system. I found that with the factory recommended charge it would freeze up after extended running (very little airflow through the vents). I cured the problem in my truck by running about 1. 5 oz more R-134a than the factory recommended charge. I have always had a little less volume through the passenger side but the temps are pretty even from side to side.

my truck is at the dealer for the air freezing up as we speak. they are replacing the fin temp sensor. when mine froze up turning the air off didn't increase airflow.

I have the same problem. I took it to a dealer in Tucson and they could not find a problem with any of the system components. I hope a TSB will come out soon.

Just drove from Mem to Newtown, Conn. By myself... but early this afternoon, had my son drive us out to eat... Outside air temp 39C, and i'm in the pass side were low and behold, it goes from nice and cold to warm air flow!!!! Up from Tenn. i'm alone, and the air on driver's side was just fine... So if you get a fix, plz let us know, Thanks... .

mine too. what is weird is that it was fine for the first two summers then it started for the first time about six weeks ago. warmer on pass side (poor wife :-laf ) a couple of times it did not blow very hard on either side like you turned the fan down two notches and putting it on recirc does not help much if any. this blows!... . actually... ... it doesn't blow! :)

I agree, just had my wife's Grand Cherokee limited blend doors replaced. They did a good job but have some rattles deep inside there somewhere #@$%!, what a waste.

I ain't even going to check to see if the 05 is warmer on the pass side. I just know there's no way their going to dissect my dash on the 05. Plus my other half is always complaining to turn the dam thing down anyway

Mac
