I've been a long-time reader, but VERY infrequent poster, on this forum. This is because my 2012 Keystone Fuzion model 302 toyhauler has been very reliable until this w/e.

Every two weeks, I crank up the generator and run the two a/c units. I did so again this w/e when the outside temp was 103 and inside my shop/camper storage building it was 98. The camper inside temp was 90. After running for approx 10 mins, no issues were noted. Upon shutdown, I heard a hissing from the rear unit. After taking off the plastic cover, I found "air" escaping from a very small nipple/bump (it's NOT a service port of any kind) on the line that runs from the condenser to the compressor. The front unit has this same very small bump/nipple on the same line.

I'm a strong mechanic, but admittedly not a solid a/c guy. I'd very greatly appreciate anybody telling me what has caused this issue and any suggestions for repair. Thanks in advance for the help!

Pictures would help. There's no (AIR) in an A/C system. That's actually Refrigerant (Freon). It could be a restrictive orfice for the system. Maybe cracked?

Upon shut down, it is not uncommon for you to hear a hissing sounds as the system equalizes pressure inside the system. It is unlikely that you have freon escaping, the nipple that you hear it from the most is near the orifice in the system and where the equalization is going through.

I've been told there isn't any repair capability of roof units. If it's pumping cold air there isn't a problem. If it isn't, then I think it is replacement time.

The restriction is probably a cheap txp ( thermal expansion valve, but no moving parts. It will either cause gas to change from liquid refrigerant to gas or gas to liquid before the evaporator. If there is leak, the unit will have to be put on a vacuum prior to filling back up with refrigerant, and of course fixing tbe leak.. Not sure if a roof unit can be repaired but it's worth trying to save $$$

Please report back the outcome. There's a bunch-ton of TDR members that have trailers, fifth wheels & campers with rooftop AC units that are aging USA-Made units. I think many of us would like to repair them if we can, and not replace them with Chinese models. The brand names we are used to, Dometic, Coleman and so on are now made in China.
