2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A/C Problem

I need a little direction with resolving an air conditioning problem. The system worked fine during a 330 mile trip recently. The next morning there was no cooling. I set the system to max cool and watched the compressor and saw that the compressor clutch would engage for about 2 seconds and then disengage for about three seconds and then engage again. . It repeated this cycle continously. I'd appreciate any thoughts as to where to start in this one.

It sounds like you are low on freon and the low pressure switch is cycling the compressor you can unplug the switch and jump the two wires in the plug together and the compressor will continue to run but don't do it but for a minute or so. Or you can put a set of gages on and check it right. Hopefully the dreaded evaporator hasn't developed a leak. Hope this helps.

If the cycling is rhythmic its probably a low charge. If the cycling is erratic (and all this done at idle rpm) it might be a bad low pressure switch. Chrysler sold so many they were on national back order last June.



Manifold gages are the only way to tell for sure.

same thing happened to my 2000 it had a small leak in the evaporator and I was 21 day's out of warranty my dealer fixed it under there good customer relations policy for one hundred dollars. Oo. Oo. my vote is for the evaporator Don
