2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission A/C question

I posted a thread about this problem a while back, but thought I'd get an update from some one, I have a problem with my a/c not working, actually all my vent selections don't work, cold air only comes out on top of the dash. Like through the defrost vents, but not really. Some one mentioned something about a diaphram relay or switch??? Does this sound familiar? Anybody know where it's located and if it's difficult to replace? Thanks for any help... ... ... ... .

So this is something better left to the dealler to fix? What if the work has been done already? Don't know for sure though, but are these things I can check myself too? Thanks for the link, it shed light on my problem.

Kalaehina - when my truck did the same thing (while under warranty many moons ago) I fixed it temporarily -



There is a panel/defrost vacuum actuator under the dash behind the steering column. Its kinda hard to see but you can follow the vacuum lines up to it under the dash. With the A/C on move the actuator and see if your a/c starts blowing out of the panel vents. I temporarily ty-wrapped my actuator so that it stayed in the panel position until I had a dealer do the recall. Anyway- give this a try and maybe you can just replace the actuator and get by for a while.

Also take a look under the hood for any broken/leaking vacuum lines. The vacuum lines that feed the vent controls run along the firewall. I've seen the line near the turbo come loose from its clip and fall against the manifold or turbo and melt in two. No vacuum means the air defaults back to blowing through the defrost vents.

Now, could an exhaust brake play a factor in this? Just wondering if the faults I've been having with my exhaust brake a few weeks back had something to do with this. Haven't had a/c for 4 months now.

Okay, I found the actuator and moved it by hand and the air comes through the vents. How would I tell if it's a vacuum source problem or the electrical switch?

Okay, I checked the vacuum line to the actuator, and after reinstalling it the actuator moved and air began to blow out of the front vents, but still through the top too, like the force is split between the top and bottom. Would blowing a little air through the lines towards the engine help clear out the lines if it's clogged?
