My A/C quit blowing cold air. After some reading on here, I'm pretty sure the evaporator is bad. While I was checking for leaks, with the A/C on, I noticed air coming out of the drain hole in the firewall behind the evaporator. Is that normal to feel air blowing out there? or is that part of the problem?

I'm having problems with mine also. My problem is the evaporator freezing up and not alowing air flow (happens with defrost this time of year). I've checked the freon level and it's good. Anyone have any ideas?

Checked my AC today and guess what NO cold air:(

You don't even hear the compressor kick on when switching the AC on.

Glad I checked this because I have less than 900 miles before the factory warranty runs out:eek:

super, you probably have a bad pressure sensor on the round canister, or a wiring problem with that switch. the switch there tells the compressor when to turn off and stop building pressure..... when i bought my truck, the previous owner cut the wires, so mine did the same thing... after replacing the switch and wires, it was fine

Do the newer trucks have a sight glass? I would like to know how you checked the refigerant level.

At one time recently my system started acting up, the low pressure switch on the filter/drier was cycling the compressor on and off indicating a loss of charge. My leak was found to be a broken o-ring seal where the low pressure switch threads on to the filter/drier. The schraeder valve was also stuck open and blew what was left of the charge when I removed the switch.

I had to weigh in my new charge as there is no sight glass.

for Tmccormick

What was the temperature when you tried your AC? If it was below ~39 degrees Fahrenheit the compressor will not run. The tolerance on that is probably +/- a couple degrees, but is normal. It is done to minimize freezing the evaporator up in cooler weather.

Ron's Ram, the drain hole is truly just a tube leading into the heater/evaporator air box to drain condensation, as was said. Air blowing out (not mist) is normal. It shouldn't indicate a leak from the system. If it was leaking that much, it wouldn't for long because it would lose the R-whatever charge.

Evaporators are known culprits for leaking, some sooner than others from what I've read. It is the worst part of the system to change because it's in the heart of the dashboard.

It gonna be one of my spring "projects" so I guess I'll keep driving the Neon... Oo.

WestTN, when I tried it the outside temp was in the high 50's. Then today tried it again with temps close to 60 and still cannot hear compressor kick on and NO cold air,

You might try checking the "horn" fuse. The run the compressor clutch through it. Don't ask why, it's a big mystery.

Checked the horn and it still works. There is no fuse just for the horn or even the AC according to the fuse chart.

If there is not a minimum of gas in the system the low pressure switch will not permit the compressor clutch to engage.

Well if that is the case then it's the dealers problem. Truck needs to go there anyways to have the steering issues taken care of.

Thanks for the input guys, will update when I get it back from the dealer.
