well i was coming home from the valley (phoenix) truck idled for awhile with a/c on and i see smoke comming from the hood seam WHAT THE=========

popped it and the high side cap is smoked and blasting liquid and oil everywhere :--) so on the hottest day of the year (so far) at 104° i'm roasting for my 2hr drive though afternoon traffic with my 2-55(more like 10-15)unit

so the question is can it be replaced or do i have to buy the whole hose it looks like it will come apart but i want to be sure before destroying it

usually you can replace the guts in the valve, the trick is finding the correct core to screw back in, i've come across a couple cars over the years that you couldn't get a core for and had to get a hose with a valve in it

WDixon27

it's like nothing i've ever seen

all you see in there is a rubber ball or somthing of the sort kinda like a check valve it does ahve a spring behind it

service manual (factory)doesn't address it or replacement other than hooking gauges to it

well the are not repair/replaceable

liquid line (all metal) 70. 00 took me 40min. plus 1hr charge(small vac pump)

the suction line assembly was 170. 00

so take extra care with those service ports mine was the first time it ever had a gauge on it

I have never put a gauge on the high side since I had to replace the line after the high side valve leaked after checking pressures. Seems that valve assembly is there for looks only. I hear that a vehicle refrigeration place can put a new valve on the line if you want to salvage the old line. My original line is still sitting in the garage with plastic wrap on the ends. Someday I will take it to one of those places to see if they can cut the line and install a new valve.
