Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) A/C tweakin out

Hey guys, yesterday and today, one time each day, I went to turn on my A/C (cuz it's 80 degrees here , sorry guys had to throw that in!), and the air blows only out the windshield defrost vents. It sound like the A/C is blowing but nothing comes out of the front vents. Also if I do put the defrost selection on it blows normal which is a little weaker then the regular A/C, that is now coming out of the defrost vents... ..... did that make sense? It only did it these 2 times and then when I went to try it at another time the A/C works fine, and blows out the right vents???? Any ideas? Thanks

The blower box acuator above and to the right of the accelerator pedal has a bad diaphram.



Ck. the dodgeram.org or tdr tsb's for 95-96 recalls and tsb's for oil in the vacuum lines. I posted on this many times also so ck out the archives. Trucks outside the window of the tsb and recall can also be affected (even if they have the vac. pump ck. valve).



Lets hope its something more simple. Good luck

My truck dose a funny thing with the AC as well after i have ben driving about 50 miles with the ac on the front vents and on high the blower starts to get louder and less flow comes through the vents like the vents are pluged if i stop and turn the truck off for about 20 min. then all is fine again



this happens on hot days and i can reproduce the problem but i have to drive about 50 miles so as far as taking it some one is like a moving target.

Ed: It sounds to me like your evaporator core is freezing up. My VW does this all the time if I set the fan speed too low and the temp too low.



So if it's too cold in the cab... . turn the temp up a little so that the heater core 'door' opens a little bit to help melt the ice on the evaporator.



If you don't have enough warm air going past the evaporator... they'll freeze right up and then they won't allow air to pass through. That's why it's important to keep the fan speed up.



If it keeps freezing up... . roll the windows down... . crank the temp control to HOT... . and blast the fan with the AC on. It'll melt all the ice in no time... at which point you can roll the windows up and enjoy the cool air.

My question is where is the drain for the a/c? My Dads 97 doesn't't seem to have one or it's plugged. When running it for a while and working it hard you stop the truck and no water runs out of it, It also is picking up a smell. I now they make water from condensation but we don't see it on the ground and it bugging us. Any ideas?

if i have to A/C on for a few miles and stop turn off the engine pop the hood and run and open it all very quickly then i can see frost form on the a/c lines and condenser then it melts and water drops from these usually comes out right over 4 link arms on the passenger side i have a 94 and a 01 both do the same thing



you might have your freon checked to make sure there is enough in the system

A short pipe will stick out of the passenger side firewall (a 3/4" diam. plastic tube, its sticks out about a 1/2"). Look from the under side behind the right front tire's fender liner along the firewall. Unless you have long skinny arms, it is difficult to reach from your back. Also if the firewall blanket is coming loose from the firewall you might not see anything sticking out at all...



I went to the parts house and found a 5/8" molded heater hose (90deg. ), it fit a Ford compact car, Eskort?? I then zip tied it to the stub coming through the firewall, no more wet carpet! I also got a nipple/connector and added a 10" piece of clear tygon tubing to get it down in the "draft. "



It should be in the same location on all second gen trucks (94-02).
