My pass side vents blow warmer air (with a/c) than the drivers side:confused:

My sons 08 does that with a control but my 04 has no control. I haven't looked in to it yet but I'm confussed how this could be.

99% of the time I am the only body in the truck, so I don't really know how long this has been going on. With the temps. over 100 degrees this summer it was a little hard to stay cool at times.

I checked and added freon about a month ago (took about 1/2 can) and check the temp from the pass side window. Wasn't real cold but with the outside temp so high, I thought it was as good as it was going to get.

The other day while waiting to unload (idleing) I noticed the pass side felt like reg air while the drivers side was pretty cool. This just blew me away, HOW IN THE HECK can this be?

So now I read here that there is no filter and I assume only 1 blower motor yet I get very different temps from one side to the other. #@$%!

Any body know whats up with that?

It's not a real big deal with me but momma might not like it if she ever rides in my truck.

What do you guys think?

It could be a broken blend door, or it could be low on freon, or it could be a thermistor going out.

Working for a dealership that takes a lot of Mopars in on trade... makes me rethink wanting to own one. The A/C issues alone are a nightmare. Then the cracked dashboards, the power steering leaks, ball joints, etc. etc. etc. Right now I'm working on an 06 Magnum with under 80k on it that has had e-brake hardware replaced before, and now I'm doing it again. They had to have 15 of the lug nuts chiseled off two years ago, and the other 5 replaced now.

I was told by Dishman Dodge's Service department, that if the passenger side is blowing warmer than the driver's with the AC on, it is most likely a refrigerant charge issue.

They told me the evaporator ductwork was split horizontally between the two sides, the driver's side being served by the bottom half, and the passenger's side by the top half. A low charge would result in the top half of the evaporator, to be full of boiled off refrigerant, and no longer able to absorb more heat.

Now I have not had my ductwork apart, and I can not verify if this is legitimate information, but the service rep sounded awfully sure of his information, and it sounded reasonable to me at the time... .

That was it.

thanks JJ.

I had to add a whole big can, I know I have a leak but I keep added freon with this stop leak and dye in it.

I hadn't seen any dye come out anywhere yet.

But sure enough, that fixed the different temp air flow, cool beans

thanks again

Good to know at least once in a while a Dealer's Service Department has some credible info.

Most of the refrigerant dyes require a black light to see, the compressor shaft seal seems to be a common source for leaks...

Glad you are once again cool in Texas. Jess

Don't for certain that the diesel is configured the same but the leak on my 03 5. 9l gasser was at the evap in the dash so wouldn't have seen that with dye. We found it with a leak detector and detected freon at the connection at the firewall on the engine side.

Replace the evap is just a joy! Pull the dash out. Then pull your hair out. Then pull your wallet out and empty it. Fun times for cool air.

My 04. 5 had the identical problem and it scarred me at first thinking a leak. Charged system and passenger side cooled off. This was 5 yrs ago and still cooling. Really believe it just came from the factory low on freon.

My 06 had the same problem... . now it just doesn't seem to blow much air at all... I did charge the AC and it fixed the passenger side temp difference though.
