Engine Bay: How Big?

2nd gen in 88 ramcharger

I've got a couple of questions regarding my 4bta into an '89 Chevy swap. They're pretty easy, so I'm sure someone here knows the answers:

1) Does anyone know the name of the GM chassis that a '92 4bta would have been used in? It's the Frito-Lay delivery truck (maybe a P30?), but I don't know what GM called it. I need to get a new dipstick (mine was missing when I bought it) and Cummins says that the chassis builder supplied this part.

2) Do I need to use an electric lift pump to pull fuel up out of the Chevy tank or is the 4bt fuel pump capable of doing this on its own?

3) I've heard that using the harmonic balancer off of a 6bt helps to smooth out some of the vibration. Does anyone have a part number for the right one to use?

Thanks!

Body type is a p-30. You may also want to check at a local tractor dealership, I get get accessory parts from our Case dealer as they are frequently cheaper than the auto parts equivalent. Case manufactures a stationary power unit with a cummins 4b as well as 6b. The entire thing is in a steel frame with all its needed accessories within it. Dip stick is much short than the p-30 stick that was in my 4b when I pulled it from the the frito lay truck.

The lift pump on my 4b is the only pump in the truck for fuel, the tank had nothing more than a level in it. Mine was a 88 chassis. Shouldn't make a difference. We have never had to put a pump on the truck in addition to the stock lift pump in any repowers we have done.

I haven't heard about the 6b harmonic balancer idea. Please let me know if this works for you. I won't have mine running for months yet due to it being a weekend when free project now.

You could use a damper off of the 250hp marine? It adapts directly to the pully on the 4BT. Cummins Part numbers are:

3924584, screw, 4 each

3934715, adapter, 1 each

2925233, damper, 1 each

Also found this dipstick in the parts:

3918387, tube oil guage

3908311, dipstick

3905803, brace

hope this helps,

Steve
