Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ISB Mounted Air Pump????

My Brother is bringing his '01 HO up to my house next week so I can help him install the senders and mount the guages in the pillar.

1) Where do you guys mount the sender for fuel pressure when you isolate it from the inj pump with a pressure hose?

2) He and I are going to tap into the air intake above the grid heater for boost. Can that manafold be removed and replaced without replacing the gasket between the manafold and the grid heater?

3) What is the best way to hook up the pillar replacement piece?

4) Is there a good place to tie into the ign source and dash lights?

5) Where do you run it thru the firewall?

6) Why don't one of you kind guys that has done this a dozen times or so come to my house and do this for us and we'll watch!!:p:p

Chris

Ps: We are installing Autometer EGT,Boost and Westach fuel pressure guages. CR

Few tips You can tap air intake without removing ,just remove hose cover with plastic bag tape or rubber band ect move out of way put plastic bag or rag up in manifold past spot to tap leave part of plastic bag or rag hang out of hole (so you will not forget it and leave it in total disaster. Tap at place wear it goes from round to square . after tap use anti-size on therd you can use as I did rubber hose like small fuel line . as to mounting place for sender I used the flat by the hood hinge bolted a home made bracket on and used band clamp add a ground to fender from clamp and sender . Pillar mount one screw in top of replacement if full replacement . As to coming to your house just can't make this week long way to go may be some one on the left cost will help you out . Hope this helps Ron Bissett in LOUISVIllE KYOo. Oo. Oo. :D P. S don't for get to pull out the rag or plastic bag and reconnect the air hose and hose .

MH,

As far as going thru the firewall, look above the clutch pedal where a large wire bundle goes thru a grommet. There's room to get your wires thru there. I put a small slice in thegrommet.

For power I tapped into the cigar lighter circuit. I pulled lighting from the headlight switch. There is a TAN wire on the upper left had side of the switch that controls dimming. Solder onto that one. Might want to check it w/ a multi-meter first just to make sure.

A real no muss/no fuss place to put the FP sender is on the driver's side of the fan shroud, near the WW washer bottle. Drill a 2-1/8" hole (or what ever your sender measures) in the trianglar section on top and the sender drops right in. Stick a hose clamp around it to hold it in place.

**ICEMAN** get credit for noticing this spot. Do a search for **ICEMAN** and he may have some photos in his sig.

Here's what I did.........

If you remove the air intake have a gasket ready. One time it tore and another time it didn't. Piers sells an intake manifold bolt that you can use for boost readings, I used that on the 02. I like it because it's out of the way more.

I used Addacircuits from littlefuse. You run wires right past the fuse box anyway so it makes it easy. Fuse #8 is ign on and fuse #5 dims with the lights.

Don't attach it to the exsisting pillar. Drill a small hole at the top and screw it to the A-pillar. Works great and you don't ruin the existing.

I mounted the fuel senders on a home made bracket.

Chris you pay the airfare and I'll do it. Trip to the coast sounds good.

Illflem, Drove by that Avacado ranch today on way to Morro Bay to get some parts. The trees are huge and it looks like they are RAKING in the $$$;)

Garrett, ordered some of those fuse taps at a local auto parts and they told me that they were going to be $16. 00 each! A local TDR member in town told me that hhe bought his at Auto Zone (Thanks Mike). I called them and they had them for $6. 99ea. needless to say, I took my hopped up '55 VW for a 25 mile cruise to buy them there.

Big White Beast, Those Pics were a GREAT help and the fuse position #'s... THANKS!

My Brother is coming up my way tommorrow and we are going to install the guages. Thanks to all you Guys that answered this thread. Chris
