I have tried a search and came up w/ nothing. The infinity system, I tried to hook up an after market deck to replace the factory infinity head unit but still using the stock infinity speakers and nothing. I was an installer about 4 years ago for 4 years so I know what I'm doin'. The amp kick on wire is hooked up (12+ volts) and the outputs on the pioneer deck are functional. What's the deal? Are the infinity speakers on a type of ground (-) speaker input or what? I'm gettin' ready to rewire the entire truck if nothing can be found by postin' this thread. I've heard the stock amp is located either behind the glove box or in the passenger kick panel. Mating up the input and output of the amp together, (a little bit of wiring) could that work?

Second, you guys and gals w/ amps powerin' your systems, where did you mount the amp? I'm thinkin' under the drivers seat. I would like to maybe mount it on the rear wall of the quad cab. But can you get to it? Are the rear seats able to fold down or would you have to remove them completely?

Thanks for any info.

BTW... pics are commin' of the rig... . i'll take them tomorrow before tearin' into the BS infinity equipt. :-laf

I thought the infiniti speakers have amps mounted directly to them?

They did on my '98 dakota anyway.

If so then you need to run some sort of adapter to block the speaker's amps as you have the head unit amp which will power the system... I do not believe you can run both the head unit amp and the speaker amps.

As for putting in an actual separate amp... again I think you need to make sure the speakers' amps are blocked.

I had the same problem when I hooked up my pioneer dvd deck in my 04. 5. It's been a few months since I did it so I am trying to remember what I did. I know that all the speaker hookups are normal. I know I had hooked up the amp turnon wire. but I can't remember how I fixed it. Sorry I can't help more.

I put my amp under the drivers seat, I was going to put it under the rear passenger seat but then thought why run the extra cables to and from. If you put it on the back wall you will need an ultra thin one cuz there is not much room.

Removing the rear seat for any install work is the way to go cuz it makes for more room, have a helper the seat frame is kinda heavy.

I've been told by more than 1 stereo shop that it can't be done. That was my plan as well and I ended up replacing everything. The factory amp is behind the glove box. On the older trucks each speaker had its own amp mounted to it. Not anymore.

I used 2 amps, one for the subs and one for the components. One is mounted under each seat. The amp fits better under the passenger seat, but you have to remove the jack. To place the amps on the back wall you would have to pull the seat (couple of bolts) because the seat does not fold down.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. After I posted the thread I saw someone else was askin' about the rear seat thing. Should have looked, anyway...

I'm going to run just one 4 channel amp just like in my last truck. 2 channels bridged down mono for the 10" sub and the other 2 for the front polk 6 1/2" woofers w/ 1" tweets. I just hope the rear infinity 5 1/4"(not stock, others I bought today) can keep up w/ the fronts since I'm going to amp those and not the rears.

BTW... as an installer I was always taught and taught others to keep power wires (12 volt amp wire and amp turn on) away from "signal" wires (RCA's, output speaker wire, etc. ). Never had any problem with alternator noise when I followed this rule but running everything together would be much easier. Just wantin' to know what everyone elses take on this is?

Let me know... . thanks

If anyone's interested I'll take pictures of the entire install tomorrow. Just tryin' to help others out. Later :D

I ran all my wires together and I don't notice any noise, but I wonder how much of the noise comes from ignition wires that diesels don't have. The only noise I get is when I have the dvd screen out and playing. Even with the truck not running I have some interference that I can't figure out the source. It doesn't do it with the screen out and a cd playing, just a dvd.

Finishing up tomorrow

Well, after 8 hours and no more daylight in Omaha, I decided to call it a day. Everything is ran throughout the truck and now I just have to hook it all up in the dash and to the amp.

Just keepin' you all updated. Took some good pics too. I'll start a "rigs" page tomorrow with the pics and a little discussion on how the install went.

Good point about the gassers and the lack of wiring that the diesels don't have to cause the noise in the system. Later
