I called the DC Customer service to get an estimate of my delivery time and found a a few more details. My truck was ordered on July 15th and is scheduled to be built the middle week of Aug. The Rep was very helpful.

I also asked the rep about changes and he said let me see if they have sent down the changes. He searched and found a list of 04 Ram changes. I don't have any details though.

Nav Radio

U-Connect Cell Phone

Chrome Side Steps

Satin Brush Gauge bezel instead of the wood on Laramie??

Laramie Chrome grill changes???

Chrome side molding on Laramie

Tint on Rear windows on Laramie/SLT

Tilt Standard on ST

Remote door lock standard on SLT/Laramie

Here's the kicker H. D. Off-Road Package???

Like I said, he did not have many details.

When I ordered my Laramie last Wednesday, I thought the computer showed the brushed bezel trim under the Laramie details, but I wasn't sure. I don't remember seeing the HD off road package.

Just came back from the dealer and picked his brain about the 04's. I was mainly looking for any new colors before I place my order. The only new color is negligible - the dark garnet is being replaces with a new "maroon". Although it's hard to tell from a swatch, the new color looks a little deeper and fuller.

Remote door lock standard on SLT/Laramie

Ewwww  I hate those things with a passion. I am perfectly capable of turning a key in a lock. That must mean the passenger's side front door loses its lock cylinder as well.

When you have to drive/park in a questionable area, the last thing you want to do is give a crook a couple seconds headstart to jump in the door before you do, all because he's listening for a chirp or click of locks opening.

That must mean the passenger's side front door loses its lock cylinder as well.

The only door lock on mine is on the driver's door. That was standard along with the remote lock on the '03 Laramie. You still have the option of using a key on the driver's door. It makes no sense not to have at least one door that you can get into without a key.

I'm also interested in seeing what the new laramie dash looks like . One of the main reasons I've convinced myself that I want a SLT, is that the laramie wood looks SO cheap and tacky. I surely also hope it does NOT look like the pic above. That aluminum trim around the dash is ghetto. Might as well hang some dice and add a big ricey fin on the back and spinning rims...

HD offroad sounds sweet!! Can't wait to hear more details.

A Cummins Engineer told me at the Louisville Farm show, "Dodge will not put an EGR engine in a truck one day before they have to because of cost. " They must put them in by Jan 1, 2004. I can see them building some extra stack in Nov and Dec. to avoid the EGR and maintain a price advantage as long as possible. That is unless, they are coming with more HP or something else the customers might want in a 2004. 5???

I like the aluminum trim on the prototype much better than the wood. I hope mine comes delivered just like that. I can always remove the fuzzy dice. ;)

HD Off Road???????

IMHO - Heavy Duty should be standard in a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup. And so should off-road. An off road option should be nothing more than tires. To me the off road is just an excuse to add a decal like the Fords and GMs - and the import pickup wannabes. If we want Heavy Duty with the Cummins, gauges should be included. Sorry for venting.

all this speculation from Cummins is all just that as well. I had a dealer tell me that his visit with Cummins resulted in the Cummins NW rep telling him that not only would the January 04 emmisions equipment be standard from build day 1 in July, but that the torque spec would go down and the peak HP spec would go up (higher rpm). Of course if I find that to be incorrect I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB :)

But we gotta remember here that all these guys are speculating, including the Cummins guys, unless they are aquainted with the Dodge production line. The Cummins Intermountain service manager here told me that the only similarity between the real Cummins engine and the ones they put in our trucks is the block and the pistons. Even the valve seats are different (the Dodge block has none). The 02 RAMs were the last trucks that Cummins could even work on because contractually DC made Cummins produce a line of engines that Cummins themselves could not work on -- the ECM is incompatible with std Cummins diagnostic equipment.

also, the std Cummins engines in school busses and motorhomes have had the EGR/VGT since 2002, and since the production line for Dodge engines is completely unique, is totally a DC decision when to roll in the new emmisions stuff.

Also remember that DC is trying to protect their current ability to move 2003 inventory so they are not going to tell anyone how cool the 2004s are.

I've been to four different dealers and I get a different answer each time. they're all spewing out speculation ... .

Most off-road packages are simply different shocks and tires and a few skid plates. Sometimes the springs are different.

Being built

Sweet scott1! Let us know if it comes with nasty EGR! I want to order mine around october just to be safe. The email I got from cummins said in so many words, that all models built in 2003 would be built to 2003 spec. Sure hope so!

I'm pretty irritated at a couple of dealers for just grabbing words out of the air and calling it truth.

Bellevue, WA dodge dealer on 116th street, said this: according to Cummins NW, new emissions controls would appear on the first 2004s delivered in August. claiming to have looked it up on the dealer web side, this dealer sales manager said that the 2004 torque spec is slightly lower than 2003 and that the peak HP spec is slightly higher.

Sundance Dodge in Boise, ID said this: EGR is on the first 2004s but there is no change to the turbocharger. The HP and Torque specs are the same as 2003.

My prefered dealer, Peterson Stampede in Nampa, ID hasn't pulled anything out of the air and is currently researching this with the resources they have available.
