We haven't really had any real cold weather here in NY so I'm going off memory.. I'm almost positive EB was automatically on, and when I hit the EB button, I could hear the turbo go quiet again and Vane position change.

It won't be automatically on unless you're hooked to a trailer and it was on before, even that seems to be hit and miss.

Hmmm. I gotcha. I'm pretty positive also, that once when the truck was warming up with high idle on, I hit the exhaust brake, and nothing changed. Maybe I didn't hit the button hard enough, no idea. I'll have to test it out as the weather cools down around here and report back.

I liked to put parking brake on and put truck in gear to warm it up. That worked the best on my auto, on my 08 i'd turn the EB on and idle up to 1100 RPM it'll kick off after 140 water temp.

I hadn't started the truck for a few days and needed to hook up to the horse trailer this morning and it was cold, 20°F, so I paid attention the the VGT position.

The truck jumped to 1000 rpms right after starting and the VGT was 93%. I turned the EB on and it went to 95%. I could hear the change but it wasn't huge.

I then kicked it back down to 750 rpms and the VGT was still at 95% with the EB on. Turned the EB off and it went to 93%. I then remembered page 2 of my CTS2 shows exhaust backpressure. EB on was 16 psi, EB off was 8 psi. Big difference there for only 2% on the VGT vanes. As the motor warmed up the VGT position trended towards 92% and the back pressure quickly started dropping 4 psi by the time the coolant was 80°F and then down to 2-3 psi at operating temp.

So, my 0.02, is that normal warmup doesn't warrant the need for the EB on as it already increases load some on it's own.

Don't want to change the subject about warm up . Just got back from 10 day trip from San Diego to Morro Bay. This truck is an animal. I pulled my 32' 14k fiver with ease. It help Mph up all the grades and braking was phenomenal down hill. This was the first backing may trailer into my spot at home as I have to back up hill and I never wanted to take the chance with 48RE. I did put it into 4wd low and monitored the trans temp which didn't move a bit unlike the 48RE. The truck is a real winner I cruised at 65mph which worked well for me. Done driving like a bat out of hell. Thanks for all your input on this thread.

Seems to me the tailgate when I first purchased it had easy down , easy up feature. Seems it slams down now . It is tradesman level ST says nothing on the window sticker. Can I add this feature in if not? Thanks

I think it is just a set of torsen bars in the tail gate on the 18. Did you check if maybe they came loose or broke?

deezee also makes a gas strut to make the opening softer.

Hopkins also makes an easy lift torsion bar that fits between tailgate and bed.

It just provides more charge capacity if you have a large electrical load. Think ambulances that have a lot of patient monitoring electrical equipment. Alternators typically need to be up around 1200-1500 rpm for the full rated output so it would also give you more charge at an idle also.

So they are hooked in parallel not for charging additional batteries? Separate from the engine batteries?
