I know this is not my forum, I'm a 12V but I think y'all need to hear this.
Two weeks ago a local X ironworker was killed in a 2001, 3500, two days old. As safe as these trucks are the way it happened is hard to believe. The front a-frame seemed to break off the truck. The right wheel, hub, upper and lower ball joints was removed from the truck. It just seemed to break off. When this happened the front of the truck dug into the road, the rear of the truck came up and over and the tail gate hit the road and came on over. As it went over he was thrown out the window, and the truck rolled on top of him. Two hours after it happened he was found under the truck, radio still playing. The widow won't press any investigation as to why because she just wants to over his death.
I know this is not the type of thing you want to read but check the front end for any hair line cracks. I don't have a clue as to what could cauce this. I just cannot imagine one of these long trucks standing on the nose. Scary.

Thanks for listening.

First, sincere condolences. As for the truck simply disintegrating, no way. Must have been severly damaged to cause that kind of separation. Your friend may have lived to tell what happened if he had worn his seat belt. Being thrown from, and rolled on by vehicles is one of the major causes of vehicle deaths. Also remember, newer vehicles are designed to fold vertically in front collisions. The fact that the rear end came over also indicates a very high speed. Lots to think about, and remind us; we are not immune to the results of our carelessness.

Ron:
You are right. I'm feel certain speed entered into it. Seat belt also. My point being with the new trucks, is there a possible weakness? Only point I'm trying to make. The truck did not disintegrate, just the front A-Frame broke loose from the truck.

This weekend a 2000 2wd dually was hit by a train in my home town. If any of you have watched the Dallas news, you have seen pictures.

The truck was hit in the passenger side door and pushed down the track close to a quarter mile. The frame was bent around the front of the train but nothing was sheared off as mention in the above post. All of the bed mounting bolts failed, fuel tank was dropped, and the cab area was narrowed by about 2 feet. It was one of the most terrible wrecks I have ever seen.

Look for those trains!!
