I was the one who had the rather long post about 2 weeks ago entitled "After thinking for 11 months, here's what I did"... . or something along those lines. Anywho - I have decided to bomb and my bombing equipment arrived this week, so yesterday they went into the cummins. Now for the funny part.
I have never installed fuel injectors before, so this was going to be a new expirience for myself and a couple buddies I asked to assist in the install. I found a 3 page instruction manual on one of the member sites that I printed out and had beside me. Everything was going well, until it came time to pull out the fuel connector line in the head. And yes... . for about a half hour me buddies argued with me (the have ford diesels) that the fuel connector tube was actually the fuel injector !!! And the sad part is that I almost started to believe them. After comparing the injector tubes to the new 275's fuel injectors. . I knew they couldn't be the same componet (for newbies it's like apples to oranges). After re-reading the instructions a couple of times we figured out that the injectors were hiding under that cap between the intake & exhaust valves. . After we had the first one in the other five were a piece of cake (well, #6 was a little tricky).
Impressions: My 99' 6 speed with the 4. 10 gears seems to have a reason for living now. I installed the VA CPC, Practical solutions boost module, and a set of 275's Bosch injectors. "HOLY TESTICAL TUESDAY". I know that this combination isn't anything much compared to what a lot of other guys have out there, but let me tell you somehting, You guys that are wondering whether or not to BOMB will be quickly influenced when you ride in one of these trucks. The power increase is VERY noticeable and is a nice option to have. Also this combination only produces a small puff of smoke when you goose it. I am also running a custom exhaust (factory down pipe off the turbo, to a 3" Y, then dual 3" pipes to 24" long 5" tips out behind rear wheels) and I can notice a more of a grunting from the motor at low rpm's. This truck really jumps up now and barks.
If some of the new guys out there want to drop me an e-mail, please feel free and I would be more than happy to give and advice/information that I have learned about my injector install. It really isn't that difficult but I learned enought that it saved me $250. 00 to have a truck garage install them for me... . Thanks again loyal member of the TDR !!!
