This is a kind of a Chevy vs. Dodge story. So can't quite remember exactly where but, I'm tooling along with cruise on about 75 - 80, can see for miles in front and rear. I come up on this Chevy Dura-pad gradually going about 5 mph slower than I. I put the blinker on, move to the left, ease up, pass, put blinker on move into right lane and continue - pretty boring right? He like I had no trailer - he had an empty bed - unlike myself; hard cover and approximately 1000# of camping gear etc in the bed. Now the story starts to get interesting. After a few miles of following me and starting to get smaller bit-by-bit in my mirrors he comes up on the right and lags there? Apparently checking out the Light Driftwood paint, step bars, wheels, blacked out windows??? God only knows, his truck was white, must be something Chevy puts in the cab to make them gawk at real trucks???? Anyway, he very deliberately set's his cruise and maintains speed next to me, I'm thinking WTF is this knucklehead up to? Trying to ignore this obviously troubled GM operator I maintain and turn my focus back to the road ahead figuring maybe he's making a movie with a hidden wheelhouse camera - what ever. Then in the near distance I see the road starting to incline . . . could it be this guy wants to see if his truck will pass mine with the cruise on as the road inclines??? I don't know but in all my years I've never had this kind of race, so I figure this is new and decide to see what happens. Sure enough as we approach the incline I notice both his hands are centered on the top of the steering wheel - answering my question - with his hands there he is clearly indicating what I thought. So I do likewise and wait for the outcome. Once again we are doing about 75 - 80. As we reach the beginning of the incline we are side by side. As it steepened he starts to loose ground, I look over keeping my hands where they were to see if he is going to do likewise. I notice a slight grimace on his face as I look back up his bumper is at the side of my door and beginning to fade. I notice a bit of smoke starting to come from his exhaust as he begins to fade more now his front end can be seen in my left mirror, his headlamps flashed and I look to the left of his windshield and notice he's giving the "thumbs up" I oblige with a wave and two taps to the accelerate tab on the cruise. As I move forward I notice a bit more smoke from his pipe as he gets smaller and disappears. I didn't see that truck again. Was very interesting to me that my 5 - 6 year old 135k mile basically stock engined truck pulled away from, without missing a beat, a "supposedly" professional grade superior truck. HA! Notice I said, "interesting" and not surprisingly - "Long live the mighty Cummins" AHURAH!
