A good reason to extend the "burp hose"

Extending my breather hose from the vent was always on my to do list, but never a real high priority. Boy, it should be!



I pulled the radiator yesterday. I was shocked at how much oil/dirt/feathers/bugs were built up in the front of the radiator. The back has a nice black ring where the fan blows the oil onto the radiator.



I can't help but think the engine will run cooler once I get that crap cleaned out of the fins! Extended hose on the way!!!

Yeah sure is a shock to see all that oil. Makes you wonder what they were thinking



Apparently running a real long hose to the back can be a problem in cold weather. Most of the cold weather Ram owners seem to be venting somewhere under the cab and not getting any condensation problems.



I extended mine and no more black crud on the front of the truck...

I believe the fan pulls air through the radiator. The ring you see is dirt in the air that comes through the radiator from outside.

Maybe if that dyfunctional idiot Jerry Springer engineer that came up with the idea of a puke bottle had to clean all the oil off of them he would start using his head instead of something else to think. Since I extended mine(son did his 99 too)its clean and dry under there.

I'm not too concerned about the dirt/dust being pulled through the radiator. What bothers me is the blowby oil film on the radiator that's holding all the dirt!

Buy about 4' of heater hose, a splice/connector, and two hose clamps. Take the bottle off and attach the heater hose to the existing hose. Route the heater hose over the front crossmember and tie it off, with a zip tie, on the control arm bracket of the front axle left side. Make sure you extend the hose below the axle a couple of inches and then zip tie the hose, or use the bottle zip tie, to the block. All of this cost about 11. 00 and so far no oil on the underside of the truck.

I extended mine Sunday. I built a bracket so the bottle sits next to the steering box and about 1"above the stabilizer bar. This makes it easier to get to for cleaning and takes it out of the fan air flow. Not sure if this is a cure all but it has to help.

What size hose is needed for this project?

Just bring your OEM breather hose to the auto store and match it up. I believe that it is 3/4" heater hose. You will also want to get the appropriate sized adapter (3/4"?) that will join the new hose to the OEM breather hose. This way you can keep that nice tight radius bend of the OEM hose.

yep . i waited 2 years to move mine , i'm going to pull the radiator and have it clean at my local rad shop , what a mess , i might pull the intercooler and clean it also . while its out i'm goingto look at putting the intercooler in front of the a/c condensor .



its a 3/4" hose , i bought a 6 foot package , sometimes you can find the prepackaged one with a 90* bend on one end , this would be perfect , also get a 3/4 hose splice , and a couple clamps to hold it all together . i secured the hose to the bolt that held the bottle clamp .

$10 Fix

I used about 3-4 feet of 3/4" fuel hose, a male-male coupler, and two radiator hose clamps. I left the OEM breather hose in place (after cleaning everything up ), then attached the additional hose using the coupler and hose clamps. Then, I used a zip tie to attach the hose so that it hangs about 1-2 inches below the front axle. I don't think it matters what you attach it to, whatever is convenient.
