That's the main reason I've wanted one. Ribs get tired after a while. Most stools don't work that great for me since I'm 6' 6".

Miltary large 50 calbr. ammo box

I picked a large miltary ammo box It perfect for standing on to get under the hood. It is about 12-14 inch high, 16 inch long and 8-10 inched wide. solid steel. easy to keep spare nuts, bolts and parts in too. I wished I bought two of the large one. I bought the two small one for the boys to play army and one large one for DAD.

I've been meaning to fab one of these. I didn't know one actually existed. When I did my injectors on my last truck, I was getting pretty tired of finding new positions to work, while sparing my lower back and all the vulnerable parts under the hood. I would want to make one that you can use like the one in this picture, or crawl up on top and lay there while working.

Hmmmm... . Time to start drawing pictures.

It sure looks to me like you could buy a combination ladder that can be configured into straight, step, and scaffolding type . then cut it in two and you have the raw material to make two of these things. allyou should have to do is fab the bottom running gear and brace.
