On the CF forum, someone sitting on the side of the freeway wrote......

"Just a quick initial post. Fan sucked in shroud and turned radiator to swiss cheese. Was pulling combined 29,930lbs up pass outside Bakersfield temp hit 215, fan kicked in high then bam, steam everywhere. Radiator is all chewed up, waiting to get towed to Bakersfield dodge and camping world."

Went and checked mine, had sucked part of it in and the fan ate it......GRRRRR......

There is a Star case for the rubber part being out of position. Just have the dealer use the search term Fan.

I just went out and checked my truck...

Overall nothing looks out of place, but I did find one 4" long piece of green masking-type tape inside the lower part of the rubber surround. I removed it, even though I don't see how that could've presented any problem.

What does concern me is the overall design of how the rubber surround seats against such a tiny lip on the plastic shroud behind the radiator. On the sides I can push it in with only moderate finger pressure. It's kinda scary!

I'm really surprised the rubber surround isn't fastened to the plastic radiator shroud with at least a few plastic trim buttons in vulnerable areas.

Ram must have tested the crap out of these trucks in both hot and cold weather, towing and not, and you'd think they would've caught something like this. I'm baffled why it's suddenly turning up now.

On the truck's that've sucked in the rubber surround, could there have been a problem with restricted airflow through the radiator(s) thus creating abnormally high suction in front of the radiator fan?

Per the tech, the issue is caused by the shroud/rubber assy was not properly adjusted when the truck was built. Mine had sucked in about a third of the way around. I was surprised how easy it was to push it back in place. The design and the way it is.......... kind of spooky. They are going to replace the seal and the fan blade, which doesn't appear to be damaged.

I looked and poked at mine and its the same. The rubber is soft and flimsy enough to push it in and when it get hot it will certainly get worse. This is something to watch carefully as summer heats up.

Two and a half months ago, fan sucked in shroud, radiator ruined. Dealer claimed I'd hit something. Charged me $3,500.00 for a new radiator, assorted parts and labor. Had the pickup back for about a month. First time pulling a load. Shroud sucked in again. Caught it before it damaged anything other than the shroud.

Sounds like the dealership owes you a refund if there is a Star case (se Sag2 post #2 above) regarding this issue and you did not hit anything!!!

Can anyone tell me what rev's you have to be pulling to get this? With my g56, I keep it under 2300 most of the time
