Vehicle is 2001 short bed 4x4 h. o. Lately I noticed if I fill the fuel tank plum full I'm dripping a fair amount onto the gound, it never did this b4. When I climbed underneath and craned my arm on top of the tank where fuel lines sending unit etc go into top of tank I can feel a short piece of metal tubing about 2inches long and maybe 1/8 inch diameter with a 90 degree bend very near the tank. Is there supposed to be a hose on it? I can't feel any loose rubber tubing(vent hose?) laying on top of the tank or does this tube just vent directly to the atmosphere. If so it sure seems like a good way to get contamination into the tank. Thanks in advance for all the help I'm sure to get

I looked at a truck on the lot with no bed one time and I noticed that tube too, I blew into it and then backed off and the air came back out, I think it is a vent.

cheers, Kevin

That is a vent tube.

BTW some folks had performance problems with that when the factory left the "plug" on (but that's not what your having a problem with).

there is a reason

I reduce MPG calculation fluctuations by filling it that full. Besides, in 18-20 miles a gallon is gone, so it's not overfull anymore.

I always fill mine to the brim. Never leaked before. Of course, I've also managed to put 36 gallons of fuel in a 35 gallon tank... twice !

There is a small fitting on top of the tank facing the driveshaft side. I put a piece of rubber line on it and routed the line to just below the bed. That's just to help keep dirt out. Maybe that's where your's is leaking
