My buddy has an '05 that threw the P0336 code this weekend. The list I keep in my glove box shows this code as a crankshaft position sensor performance code. He runs an Edge Juce/Attitude. Both Edge and two dealers confirmed that the code is for the CPS. Both edge and the dealers confirm several known failures of the CPS. I told him it was a five minute job to replace it so he picked one up at the dealer in Heber, UT. The dealer told him he would have to remove the starter to replace the CPS. Did the sensor get moved for the '05 or is the dealer missinforming him. He'll be here later today to swap it out. My initial thought is that the dealer is up in the night or simply trying to drum up work for their garage.

It has been my experience that boxes that manipulate timing will throw a 336 code every now and then. It has also been my experience that fuel box manufacturers don't like to admit their box throws that code. Has the truck been throwing the code on a regular basis? Point is I wouldn't be surprised if the truck still throws that code after the cps swap. My TST will throw 336 about once a month, usually on a cold engine and usually at lower rpm. My Banks 6-gun did the same thing.

The CPS is a 5 min job. Its in the clear with no obstructions. Been there, bought the t-shirt. Dealr cost was ~70 if memory serves...

Thanks for the replys. I think he was running at a low RPM. Lugging it home during our first snow storm. Thanks again.
