I use a product called Lubri-Diesel after reading an article from Bill Farlow a well respected RV writer
1oz treats 4 gallons
1 quart treats 128 gallons
1 gallon treats 500 gallons
1)Lubricates-improves mpg, prevents premature injecion pump failure
2)Detergents-cleans and prevents deposits
3)Stabilizes-decreases gum and resins that clog fuel filters and injectors
4)Demulsifies-disperses water from fuel
5)Exceeds Cummins superior L-10& N-14
What do you guys think it costs $98 for 4 gallons, your input would be appreciated($34 for 1 gallon)

Thanks oil man, a lot of good info. One product not mentioned is Marvel Mystery oil. This product has been around a long time, My dad used it in his truck back in the 50's, I ve talked to a lot of diesel owners including boat owners who swear by it! I've used it in my ram and would like to think it is doing some good, any info on this product/ Thanks

Oilman,is the DCI+ a cetane booster only? That's all you say in your original post. If it costs . 057/gal. to get 7. 4% better milage, it will pay for itself plus a little more. Craig

C Schomer,
My original post was a little backwards, in that it listed the things that each additive does not have. When I listed the LE DCI+ the only thing it does not have is cetane improver. LE did it a little different, they added a diesel combustion improver. The diesel combustion improver acts like a catalist it makes more of the fuel burn, which in turn gives you more power just like a cetane improver. The milage info is right an average of 7. 4% which will more than pay for the additive. If you think about it if the diesel combustion improver makes the fuel burn better and more complete then you will get less soot, both out the tail pipe and in your oil. This will make your oil last longer and or just give you better oil quality in thr way of less contaminates. The DCI+ does all the other things also like lube the pump, it has 3 lubricants to do this better than most of them.

Sorry for the confusion about the original list.

Sincerely, Kevin

ralphr,
I think MMO is an ok product. It does what it does well. It is a good lubricant. I think it would clean the injectors some also. If you are looking for a product that does everything then MMO is not the one.

Kevin

Power Wagon,
The info I posted was right off the Diesel injection service web page. It was the performance formula and it does not say anything but what I posted. If you have another source that gives more information could you e-mail me so I could look it over?

Thank you, Kevin

Oil Man, great post, very informative. I was just thinking about what you said about not wanting to get a highly concentrated additive on the paint and how it will eat through a plastic container. Our fuel tanks are made of plastic. I realize that once an additive is dumped into the tank, it gets diluted in the fuel, but I was wondering if anything in the additives might eat into the tanks or cause some kind of weird chemical reaction where you would end up with a potentially harmful substance that would damage injectors or pumps. I've never seen an over the road diesel with plastic fuel tanks, although that's probably more because of crashworthiness regulations, since the tanks are outside the framerails.
Andy

Andy,
Good question,
None of the additives wil harm your plastic tanks or any other tanks for that matter. If you put them in 100% concentration then you would have a problem but the concentrations are very small and do not cause any problems.

Sincerely, Kevin

I think I tend to agree with Lee Weber's reply, at least because I haven't been convinced otherwise (see his post above). It seems to me that if there was water in the fuel (tank), it would be best to have the water sent up to the water separator and have the separator remove it vs. being left in the bottom of the tank. Theoretically if you always used a demulsifier couldn't you end up with a tremendous amount of water in the bottom of the tank, and then when the fuel supply was sucked low enough, it would be almost straight water going to the water separator? Seems like a problem to me. If you can convince me otherwise, I'll choose the LE DCI+ because I prefer a combustion improver vs. a cetane improver and LE DCI+ has all the other good stuff.

JyRO,
The LE DCI+ has a small amount of Demulsifier. Yes it was made for big trucks with water petcocks to let the water out. But if you are in a water prone area then I would suggest using 1/2 the recommended amount so that instead of droping the water out it will only make it drop out better or more complete when it hits the filter, and still do the other things that it was made to do.

Sincerely, Kevin

There is a similar thread going on on the F**d site. There are several that think Lucas is the additive to use. Anyone tried the Lucas? I use Standadyne but really can't tell any difference. Maybe the VP-44 likes it.

I just pulled up the Lucas web page, www.eliteone.com/lucas/fuel.htm
and here is the info that I got.

Lucas is a upper cylinder lubricant and injector cleaner ONLY and does none of the things that the other additives do.

Pricing is $60. 00 for 1 gallon and it treats 500 gallons. This comes out to the cost to treat one gallon of fuel of . 12 or 12 cents per gallon. WOW tooo high, and it does not do everything.

Sincerely, Kevin

At that price per gallon no wonder there is no pricing info on their web site or the catalog I recieved.
Oilman who sells all LE products?
RichR

RichR,
LE has always been marketed from the MFG to the end user. LE has always sold products in the larger order size, and thats why Mag-Hytec has been the one that most of the guys order from. Mag-Hytec has purchased at large volume from LE the MFG and have made it avalible to the readers at about the same price that you can buy it from LE. The difference is that you don't have to buy a large ammount. Mag-Hytec will sell you any amount you wish. 1-818-786-8325

If you wish to purchase in larger amounts, then I can get you in touch with the MFG account manager and have a rep come see you.

Sincerely, Kevin
